Richmond Sunrise Rotary Club Bulletin February 11, 2016

CLUB MEETING:
Laine passed out tickets for the auction.  Sandra and Mary-Lou are looking after the tickets and you should return your results to them.  Tickets are $125 each or $1500 to sponsor a table.
Thirsty Thursday is next Thursday.  All clubs have been invited and there seems to be a building rapport among clubs as a result of this social event.

Special Guests
Gloria Staudt
Guest Speaker Summary
Gloria Staudt spoke to us about the Rotary Peace Fellowship program. Gloria was introduced by Chris M.
Gloria has a Masters degree in psychology and a graduate business certificate.  She is a coach by trade, focused on enhancing abilities to make significant personal changes and breaking down barriers that prevent achieving personal goals.
Gloria joined Rotary 13 years ago.  She is District 5040 Peace Fellowship chair since 2009 and 2016 District Conference Marketing Chair.  She was club president for three terms and chaired her club’s Wine Food and Music Festival for 11 years.  She was Rotarian of the year in 2015 and is now a member of the New Westminster Royal City Rotary Club.
There are two aspects to the Rotary Peace Fellowship.  The first is a Masters degree program which provides full funding for a two-year degree in the amount of $75,000 US.  The student must demonstrate a passion for conflict resolution or international development and attend one of seven universities which provide a Peace Centre.  There are three students from our district this year.
The second aspect is a three month professional certification program in Bangkok.  There are two students from our district presently attending and there have been five since 2009.
Candidates are to be screened at the club level.  Applications are forwarded to the District who then vette it and the application if approved is forwarded to Rotary International.
Gloria is truly a committed Rotarian.
