Cultural Safety through Cultural Humility: What it means to me

Bio: Diana Clarke is from the House of Xhliiyemlaxha, Lax Gibuu (Wolf) Clan of the Gitxsan Nation in Northwestern BC. Diana has spent the last 20 years of her career committed to reconciliation for Indigenous people in BC. She currently
works with the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) as the Director of Cultural Safety and Humility leading a Backbone team created by the FNHA and the Ministry of Health to advance cultural safety through cultural humility across the BC health system. Prior to joining the FNHA, Diana spent 14 years in treaty negotiations with the federal government working towards reconciliation of First Nations Rights and Title in BC.  Diana is a two-spirited Mom to two teenagers and is grateful each day to the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil Waututh) and xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations who have allowed her and her family to live, work and play as guests in their un-ceded, traditional homelands for the past 18 years.
