Press Release: July 19

The picturesque fishing village of Steveston, situated at the mouth of the mighty Fraser River, is the open sky studio for 150 artists competing in the 14th Annual Grand Prix of Art. The annual outdoor painting competition  is presented by the Travelling Brush in partnership with the City of Richmond, Phoenix Art Workshop, and key community partners. This event celebrates creativity, inclusivity with broad community support in a breath-taking setting.

The Race

Artists of all ages and experience levels will be assigned one of forty painting locations along Steveston’s Historic Waterfront trail for a thrilling 3-hour challenge starting at 10 am on July 27th. The public is encouraged to explore the 3 km painting circuit from London Farm to Garry Point Park by bike or foot, cheering on their favourite artists. Two free “Bike Lock-Valets” will be available to ensure convenient transportation.  At 1 pm, artists must conclude their work and return completed pieces to Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site for display and judging.
