If you are honest peope will decieve you. Be honest anyway. If you are kind people may accuse you of selfishness. Be kind anyway. All the good you do today will be forgotten by others tomorrow. Do good anyway. Fredrik Backman via John

Silent Auction: Getting Ready for a Smooth Launch

Preparations are well underway for this year’s silent auction, and members are encouraged to begin organizing and submitting their items. Each Rotarian has been assigned to a data entry coordinator and should submit their auction details using the standard template (to be re-circulated).

For every item, members are asked to provide:

  • Donor name and Rotarian contact
  • Item title and description
  • Estimated value
  • A landscape-oriented photo (preferred for display)

Once submitted, items will be uploaded to the auction platform, and a unique item number will be assigned and returned to the donor for labeling.

Key dates to remember:

  • April 1: Deadline for submitting trips
  • April 21: Auction site goes live
  • April 30: Final deadline for all items (to allow time for event setup)

Members will print and attach their own item sheets, ensuring everything is clearly labeled and ready for display. With teamwork and timely submissions, we’re set for another successful and well-organized auction!

Making Smiles Happen: Dentists with Heart Mission in the Philippines

Our club was inspired by a powerful presentation on the recent Dentists with Heart mission in the Philippines, held in Batangas province, south of Manila. Set in a public school gymnasium, the team transformed the space into a fully functioning dental clinic—complete with triage, treatment, and surgical areas.

Over the course of the mission, volunteers:

  • Treated hundreds of patients, including over 850 oral surgery cases
  • Provided cleanings, fillings, and urgent dental care
  • Distributed hygiene kits, medications, and follow-up care

Many patients, particularly children, had limited or no prior access to dental services. Severe conditions such as advanced decay and gum disease were common, making the care provided both urgent and life-changing.

Beyond treatment, the team created a joyful and supportive environment—offering food, school supplies, toys, and even entertainment for children waiting in line. The impact extended far beyond oral health, restoring confidence, comfort, and dignity.

The presentation also highlighted ongoing outreach efforts, including visits to remote communities, support for students, and collaboration with local Rotary clubs and partners. These missions demonstrate the profound difference that compassion, expertise, and global service can make—one smile at a time.

MEANDERINGS

Well, yes if you are reading this Sunday morning, like everyone else who opens the bulletin first thing after 9:30 when it arrives in your email, today is World Water Day. Remember for billions of people water does not come out of a tap on demand at the desired temperature. Water is life. Even for us and we should try not to take it for granted. Read on if you are interested. Even if you are not read on. If you are really interested you can follow the link below.

World Water Day, observed on 22 March, highlights the global water crisis and its growing role in climate mobility. Climate shocks are increasingly driving displacement, with water at the centre – through droughts, floods, and unsafe water caused by salinity, pollution, and disrupted services.

This year, under the theme “Water and Gender: Where water flows, equality grows,” the focus turns to inclusive water governance centred on women’s leadership as a driver of equality and long-term stability.

For displaced and migrant communities, water and shelter are inseparable foundations of protection, dignity, and recovery. When safe water, sanitation, and hygiene are lacking, crowded shelters and settlement environments can quickly become unsafe, increasing health and protection risks – especially for women and girls. Sustainable recovery depends on restoring both essential water systems and safe, adequate shelter so communities can rebuild with stability and dignity.

As co-lead of the Global Shelter, Land and Site Coordination Cluster, IOM helps set the direction for shelter and site coordination responses alongside partners, bringing operational reach, technical expertise, and a strong protection focus to integrated, gender-responsive shelter and WASH action. By linking services, standards, and coordination on the ground, IOM supports safer living conditions and ensures women’s leadership and protection needs are central to recovery and resilience.

IOM calls for stronger investment, partnership, and inclusive policies that place water and shelter at the heart of protection, climate action, and sustainable development.
