Dalbir: Thanks to Bobby for his diligence as treasurer, including filing documents which are necessary for charity status.
Bobby: Last week he was supposed to go to Seattle, but the kids didn’t want to go because of the rain. They set up a chat for Secret Santa, and that required Bobby to go (for the first time) to Holt Renfrew where he noticed it was a bit fancy. He found the Secret Santa request in the cosmetic section (3 lipsticks and a bag for over $300), put it back down and was thinking of it, then finally bought it after checking with home officials.
Garth: No golf today, as he must do some work. Thanks for past help with tax status. He was happy to learn Shirley Pat’s story last week and promised himself to keep up more on district rotary information. He has a couple of concerts then is off to Mexico for 2 weeks.
Blair: Before sneaking out, shared that on Saturday he was ditched by Dalbir for the hockey game, and thinks that since he moved out, he is only invited by Kal. His grandsons are playing a lot and he has a subscription to watch them on his laptop. He went to lunch with the other grandchildren when in Alberta, and took them to Costco, as with 3 growing boys the cost of food is challenging.
Debbie S. ran a Victoria half marathon and is registered for the London (England) marathon on April 21 with her sister. They will raise funds for English FAB, supporting children and adults with diverse abilities. She was in the Richmond parkade recently and saw someone leaning against a post and checked that he was ok – we should always check.
Amanda is on Zoom again, for the next few weeks, as traffic hinders her from getting to work. She had fun at the Gilmore breakfast and the pancakes were great. She is going to Tofino next week, then to Saskatchewan.
Susan is at home, having lost her voice.
Mary Lou congratulates Debbie and Pat on their positions for next year and is thankful that there has been no recycling of presidents yet. She suggests we have practice session with the naloxone kits. Alan is getting good at transit and walks a lot; CT scans are coming up to determine his driving status. It’s “Oscar” day and they also have him for the weekend as kids go away for a few days.
Larry spent time with the neurologist and received surprising answers about his surgery results from September. There is no cancer, but it was a good thing he was rushed to Sept. 20 (from Dec.) as the head problems were complex. Larry saw photos and there were infections and with too much radiation, those few extra weeks of waiting could have killed him if he’d waited for the surgery. Larry is the prize surgical patient. He wishes his leg would get better, but his leg skin, muscles and artery are now on his head, and he is growing hair! The next decision is whether or not to have a plate placed on his head for protection, and he should decide before December, knowing there is the risk of repeating infection.
Chris M. congratulates Debbie and Pat for their positions next year. She was wearing Indian bracelets (gift from her neighbour) and a French Hermes scarf. With golf and bridge being cancelled she had time to shop around for her house insurance and got a deal which saved her $1000 on the premium.
Pat is watching her grandchildren’s sports and went to Tweedsmuir in Cloverdale for a volleyball game where her granddaughter’s team won their zone so they’re in the regionals trying for provincials. As a retired person, she rarely sees the eastern sky in the morning, which was beautiful today, thanks to the early rise for rotary.
Chris P. thanks Trevor and Debbie for bringing the naloxone kits to the club and for the incredible ways of honouring their brother/son. She recalls that Mitch was at a party, where guests were doing lines of coke, which was unknowingly laced, kids were going down, no one knew what was going on, 911 was busy and one young person ended up out on the driveway. In the end, all the boys were fine, but it was touch and go. This can happen anywhere!
Chris B. says all 3 grandkids are in sports, in Alberta. Matthew is in provincials in swimming, and they’re all going to swim camp in California at Christmas. She is moving to Steveston next week, having sold their house and is finally finished work. It’s been busy.
Marg was at the BC Lions game Saturday. They are diligent dog owners, but were a month late getting Mia groomed, who was looking like a woolly mammoth. The dog had never had an accident in the house, but was on the bed, licking her feet, and leaving spots behind her. As this happened repeatedly, they took her to the vet for a urine test, no problem. With a morning sample, she was still healthy. Her blood work was perfect. When they finally got to the dog groomer, they discovered she had so much fur at the back end, that she couldn’t pee, it was just leaking. Poor dog!
Bill was at the football game and will be in the Caribbean next week so will miss 3 meetings.
Kal thanks Peachy as she took care of his friend’s needs for home care. Another friend’s niece was killed at a music festival, and he has gone off to support the family. Kal finally gave a cheque to Bobby for his dues.
Debbie M. hasn’t been dragon boating as she had a cold, is working a bit and is helping with hiring new accounting staff at Disposal King, having over 100 applicants. Her granddaughter’s self-posting of a “day in the life” featured a diarrhea diaper – wow!
Judy’s grandson turned four years old, so they had a family dinner, then on Sunday she went to see Elf the Musical with all the grandchildren, on her own. Tonight, she’ll be at Circle Craft with her daughter then to Birch Bay for the weekend.
Peter had a neighbour who wasn’t great with looking after his baby and was unsure of what to do if a poopy diaper happened when his wife was out shopping. He was shown how to change it, but the instructor proceeded to lick his brown-smudged hand, which sent said neighbour to puke in the bathroom. (It was peanut butter).
Gord thinks Larry has found an extreme solution for getting his hair to grow! He has had an explosion of bursitis in his shoulder, with nowhere to put his arm without pain. He went to the emergency clinic on #3 Road, was seen in 15 minutes and was grateful!
Melinda is happy that Larry is doing well and congratulates Debbie and Pat. She is going to Mexico in 2 weeks for 2 weeks, then to Australia for 7 weeks. They had Willow for 5 days as the parents were in México, and John decided to give Willow a $5 allowance which turned out to be good for negotiating picking up stuff and helping out in general! Willow donated her earnings to Terry Fox. Impressive!
John is dressed for squash. Bad things happen in 2s, then you get a good one. 1. He had a flat tire before going to the Okanagan, but it wasn’t changed until 3 p.m., so they didn’t go. 2. He was moving from Shaw to Rogers, had a sim card coming, got a text on his phone that they needed his new address, and that they would have to charge a little more for delivery. So, John gave his Mastercard info, and shortly after had his account taken over, and has had to replace credit and debit cards. He may have to get a new phone. The good thing is that Jenny’s YouTube is now monetized for about 12¢ for every 1000 views. Yay! Jenny’s Lara is 18 months old, and impressively says ‘there you go’ and ‘you’re welcome’.
Danny is back from Puerto Vallarta, where there was a category 4 hurricane two days before his arrival, and he witnessed loss of trees and destroyed houses. He stayed for 10 days, then upon leaving there was another tornado, Otis, in Acapulco, and he even felt its turbulence in the plane. Once when he was mountain climbing in Malaysia, a man had a heart attack, and Danny, who always has a first aid kit with him, got out the cayenne pepper. After checking his vitals and taking his pulse, he put 1 tsp of the pepper in the man’s mouth, and after 5 minutes he was revived. Check out the pepper effect.
Micheal had an anniversary last week, went to the Keg Yaletown and then to Denny’s on Monday, a breakfast tradition. Today he registers his son for kindergarten.
Elena congratulated the new officers. Her container loading date is changed to Nov. 25, and she has invited the Philippines consul.
Carolyn has the grandchildren for the weekend, so might use Melinda’s money idea. She thinks Bobby is such a calm treasurer, but he needs to remind his family that there is a cap on amounts for Secret Santa.
Jeannette is back from her UAE trip, which was wonderful but very hot - 30-33 degrees. She saw the Dubai mall, the tallest tower in Dubai, and the most valuable car worth 2 million (diamond studded) and thinks that soon Dubai will have flying taxis. High on her list was the camel ride in the desert, where they saw a beautiful sunset and sunrise.
Peachy thanks Kal for the referral, congratulates Debbie, Pat, and Bobby. She had fun last Tuesday at Gilmore as she is an expert pancake maker. In the Philippines her mom fell the other day, but Peachy calmed her with her own ankle surgery story. The Xray was good, so there is nothing that has to be done.
Debbie T. does the Tour de Cure every year and funds go to support head and neck cancer research and the team’s photos are up in the hall at the cancer clinic. It’s for people like Larry that they do the ride.
Bob enjoyed the pancake breakfast on Tuesday, and there was even a student from another school who came by, having heard about it. What about a Richmond Sunrise food truck? He had an employee for a few years, who moved to Houston BC, with whom he butted heads a bit. She was working for a company whose boss, she said, reminded her of Bob. She called to apologize to Bob for arguing with him. He advised her to get critical illness insurance and she unfortunately has stage 3 ovarian cancer, and has moved back to the lower mainland, and thanks to that insurance, she was able to get a cheque to support her.
