Bill provided congratulations to My Smedberg (our former Youth Exchange student) and her finance Niklas Ljungstedt on their wedding plans. The Jaffes will be attending.

Sandra is off for the Father’s Day weekend to Nk’mip in Osoyoos.

Reminders from Bill, Sandra, and Kathy to update your Clubrunner info including employment, addresses, etc.

Chris Brodie was early once again. It must have been a blue moon.

Marg’s cataract surgery was a great success. Our condolences on the passing of her friend.

Susan is thrilled to have Glen home after two months looking after Glen’s father on Vancouver Island. Is he going to take over the cooking?

Dick managed to not only get up this morning, but managed a haircut and a restaurant visit (Mary Lou, too!)

Judy provided a wonderful story of letters that Ralph wrote their children twenty years ago and never gave them.  We all needed Kleenex. She highly recommends that we do this now for our kids.

Debbie S is finding an alternative route for her Westcoast Trail hike with friends after some issues around access due to the pandemic.

Debbie T provided an ad for Thermomixes and is now a sales rep, so hide your wallet.

Bridget Jacob President of the Rotary Club of Ladner and Elena presented on their Phillipines trip which included a Dental Mission and an ARES  (Asian Ruggednized Educational System) project.  ARES are computer devices that provide resources (videos, books, etc. for students from K to 12 in rural areas that don’t need internet access, but create their own server.  The Dental Mission was over four days and served 1000 patients a day with 13 volunteer dentists (including Danny) with extractions, fillings and cleanings.

Meanderings

According to the Pew Research Centre only 27'% of police officers in the US fire their guns during their careers
The U.S. Supreme Court this week held that LGBT employees were protected by the Civil Rights Act. Neil Gorsuch, a Trump appointee wrote the reasons for the majority. The Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964 and then expanded by LB Johnson in 1968 during the riots subsequent to the assasination of Martin Luther King.
Time is an illusion, unlike leisure time, which is very real, very precious and never to be disturbed.
