Violence against women unfortunately is not a thing of the past. Our Rotary tents will be there, and it would be wonderful to have representatives from our club. If anyone can help put up the tents at 10:30 a.m., please let Chris know. A reminder invitation was sent last week.
Dec. 1 Poinsettia distribution and Christmas luncheon, deliveries at 11 a.m., lunch at 1:00 p.m. Please pay $40 for the luncheon. At least 30 people have registered. We sold 137 poinsettias, and have raised $2300.40

With beginnings as the Marpole Movie Theatre in the 1930s, the Metro Theatre grew from an idea conceived August 1961, during a regional drama festival lull, as a place for theatre people, where learning from each other and improving by doing, was the norm. In 1977 the B.C. Cultural Fund changed course quickly and moved all funding to ‘professional theatre’, thereby excluding the Metro. But, thanks to volunteers and problem-solving, Metro found a path back.
During the 1980s, British-style Christmas pantomime was a feature and has continued to this day. The Metro is built on a National Heritage Site and the property is unsaleable, undevelopable and unmortgageable. Currently, with easy online ticket sales, Metro’s upgraded sound and lighting, rentals including pre-school graduations and movie shoots, together with a dedicated staff, volunteers and patrons’ generous donations continued season productions are possible.
The challenge is to keep the buildings going, with heat, roofing renovations and general upkeep. Ticket sales will not cover this. They are working on the audio system in the theatre and spent money last year on a system for people with hearing aids, although speakers were needed. Rotary has donated funds to that project. They appreciate our generous donation and will highlight our sponsorship in their printed programs
Special Shoebox Project
Wow – thanks to the generous donations of our Rotary members, we created 30 boxes of helpful items. These will be given to a group of women who are soon coming to the Lower Mainland from all over BC, for health and addiction help. Thank you Rotarians!
