Our club is joining with other clubs to award a Richmond external Paul Harris award in March of 2022. So start thinking of a deserving recipient.
World Polio Day is October 24th.
The club AGM will be on November 4th . Nomination forms for executive positions coming out shortly.
There will be no meeting on November 11th, recognizing Remembrance Day.
The Lower Mainland Foundation dinner/event will be held on February 5th 2022 – more details will follow.
Dean told us about the Polio Plus Society which you can join by committing to donate $100 per year. Three of our members have joined the Society - Gord, Debbie M., Pat. 👍

Dalbir went on a road trip to Mission but his driver lost his glasses, Dalbir's phone fell to the ground and now it's recyclable. Something about lunch in Port Coquitlam and a back pack. Driver's name not mentioned but hinted around Special "K".
Mary Lou had a great Thanksgiving weekend at the cabin with Oscar and family. Oscar had his first roasted marshmellow. Apparently there was a cowpie minefield around the cabin. No casualties reported.
Sandra spent a wonderful weekend in Osoyoos. Also a 40k bike trip north and back of Vaseux Lake. Thanked Mary Lou for taking attendance.
Gordon was on a zoom call everyday and suggested we order our turkeys from a 3D printer. It's coming. Raw ingredients - grass hoppers.
Debbie S. had a nice thanks giving at Whistler.
I was off to the pumpkin patch with Darcy's Twins and no covid for Sandy after no Thanksgiving.
Dick is staying local but still had a nice Thanksgiving with Barb's family.
Danny saw the amazing Aurora Borealis in Whitehorse and I for one would like to see his photos. The many colours are created by the solar winds interacting with the earth's magnetic pole. He also hiked the smallest desert.
Joyce had four days of Thanksgiving - needed a 3D printer to keep up with all the turkey being served.
Bill had a family Thanksgiving and the first virtual exchange will be this weekend. We also have the first applicant for the in person exchange.
Belinda hosted 20 for Thanksgiving and a new female companion was heavily perfumed and apparently not with the smell of burning cannabis. Belinda was coming to us live from just off the beach at Kingfisher Oceanside Resort.
Susan had a lovely Thanksgiving and delivered food to her mother and brother. Turns out she has broken her elbow and it will only take 12 more weeks for it to heal. But after that she is awarded weeks of therapy. 😖 Yikes.
Amanda once again from the dark web. She ordered her turkey from the Cove Kitchen (3D?) and will be spending Christmas in Vegas.

Chris B. must test covid negative after pulling an all night study sessions. Apparently 40% of the containers in the US are stacked up in Long Beach because consumers are buying electronic gadgets like crazy.
Garth replaced his windshield wipers.
Bobby said the turkey was ready at 7 this year instead of 10. Did not specify if it was AM or PM or if the 3D printer was on the frits. Did celebrate Mom's 77th Birthday though for sure. Because so did Micheal.
Larry had 15 for Thanksgiving including his son and had prime rib to keep Steve happy. Sounds like Don Dixon was the bouncer at Gourmet Meats. But that is not what caused Larry to suffer a serious fall and concussion. Injury to the membrane and may need hours of head surgery again. Typical Larry back at work two days later. Then .......... on top of that smoke detector would not go off and so he ripped it out of the ceiling.
Debbie T. enjoyed the walk on Sunday with her two dogs even though it was windy and chilly. Cooked all day and had Thanksgiving with family including 90 year old mother in law who enjoyed the apple crisp made from Ron's apples.
Sam blessed us with a Jewish Prayer and wants to follow Captain Kirk or was it Cap'n Crunch into space. Anyway all seriousness aside as Youth Chair we are getting an exchange student so to participate you need to be vaccinated and have a clean(ya hear that Mark) criminal record check.
Carolyn was cooking for a friend from Columbia who had returned with a positive test so the turkey was dropped off.
Micheal says it was a great turkey. Anxiety at work when told 3 days before a wedding that a Indian singing superstar was getting married. No cell phones and no disclosure and fortunately everything thing went well. Turns 46 and will celebrate at Whistler even though we did not. (Thanks P.) Click Bait if you are looking to binge.
Marg is living on zoom with her literacy program. Don apparently bought the wine? But fortunately he does not drink it.
Debbie M. reminded us about the poinsettia fundraiser and to send the brochure to family and friends. We have had members join the Polio Plus Society. AAAANNNDDD new granddaughter is named - wait for it Amalia Debra Perez.
Judy enjoyed the 35 + temperature in Palm Springs. Went to a drag queen show featuring Judy Garland with a lot of off colour jokes which will stay in Palm Springs. Mickey Rooney was in the audience as was Doris Day. Who happened to visit the club this Thursday.
Chris M. had a nice Thanksgiving with family and grandpuppies. Is trying to keep her brain active and started playing Mah Jong again. Announced we will be singing part of the national anthem in French. See above. Will tax all of our brains and looking forward to hearing the different pronunciations.
Kal will be singing the anthem in Punjabi. Wrap your tongue around those words.
Peter was accepted as a Volunteer Cancer Driver. Had his finger prints scanned and has a load of PPE and sanitizer. There was a good turn out of volunteers in Richmond. Enjoyed pork loin for thanksgiving.
Mark has finished the job in Montreal and London. Has formed a new company for work in Brazil and Ireland(proud of our little Leprechaun). Wife has been to visit family for first time in two years. She is one of 8 kids with 8 issues and something about them all being crazy. Isn't 8 supposed to bring good fortune.
Pat apologized for missing Micheal's Bday. Had a lovely Thanksgiving with family and for the first time did not cook a turkey, had the Richmond Country Club cook it instead. Was very good.

Chuck Keeling of Great Canadian Casino which has 25 gaming properties all of which were closed down at the end of the day on March 15, 2020. 90% of the staff was furloughed and the River Rock went from 10,000 to 1,000 employees and it was closed for 17 months. In Ontario and New Brunswick the Casinos opened and closed like an accordion as health orders changed. The money laundering commission has completed hearing evidence and the decision is expected in December. The casino has already implemented many changes and looks forward to the recommendations from the commission. In January 2021 Chuck received an email that he thought was a prank that the CEO Ron Baker had flown to the Yukon to get vaccinated. Turned out to be true and Chuck received inquiries from all major media outlets in North America for comment. On May 21, he received 5 weeks notice that they would be able to open the casinos. They are operating at 50% capacity and 93% of their staff have returned. The theatre is operating as a vaccine clinic by Vancouver Coastal health and about 200 a day are being vaccinated. They have opened 140 rooms and continue to open other services slowly. They have been sold to a large equity company in New York and so far operations and culture have not changed. All of the slot machine pay outs are algorithm based calculated by computers in Kamloops operated by LCBC and 8% is taken with 30% of that going to the casino. The rest is paid out to winners. Chuck is hoping their charitable Proud Program will start soon supporting with volunteers and donations community projects and organizations. Chuck also explained the found money program where players will lose or leave winning slot tickets which will total as much as $20,000 - $30,000 per quarter that is donated to charity.

Okay so National Don't Step on a Bee Day isn't until July 10, 2022 and you can learn about it by following this link national bee day 2022 - Bing. But the reason I am bringing this up is because there is a Women for Bees entrepreneurship program to empower women to be beekeepers and to bring attention to the devastation to bee populations around the world. Here is a description of the program.
Women’s empowerment and biodiversity conservation
Women for Bees is a state-of-the-art female beekeeping entrepreneurship programme launched by UNESCO and Guerlain. Implemented in UNESCO designated biosphere reserves around the world with the support of the French training centre, the Observatoire Français d’Apidologie (OFA), the programme has actor, film maker and humanitarian activist Angelina Jolie for a Godmother, helping promote its twin objectives of women’s empowerment and biodiversity conservation and sustainable use.
Focusing on local and native bees, their welfare and maintenance, as well as education on bees, the programme aims to enable women’s empowerment through an expertise-driven sustainable professional activity. It also aims to contribute to raising awareness of the importance of all bee species as pollinators, bearing in mind that animals play a major part in the pollination of 90% of the planet’s wild flowers.
Beekeeping can generate income in rural areas for disadvantaged population who don’t own crops or farms. It can also generate income and improve food security in areas where agricultural production is minimal.
This “Women for Bees” five-year programme is part of a UNESCO and LVMH partnership which supports UNESCO’s scientific intergovernmental Man and the Biosphere (MAB) programme.

A group of chess enthusiasts checked into a hotel and were standing in the lobby discussing their recent tournament victories. After about an hour, the manager came out of the office and asked them to disperse. “But why?” they asked, as they moved off. “because,” he said “I can’t stand chess nuts boasting in an open foyer.”
