2) If you are not engaged in the presentation, turn off your camera.
3) Chat function should only be used to address the speaker, not for Club member remarks during the presentation
4) Unmute when harassing the Sergeant at Arms or taking your turn during Sergeant at Arms.
5) Shovel the Rain.
Please direct any questions to the President or a board member of your choosing and we will discuss any and all questions or concerns during our board meeting. Also please refer anyone who may be interested in attending a meeting or joining the club.

 SERGEANT At Arms Tidbits

Was cancelled today because too many members were in Palm Springs. Plus it was raining. Plus it makes it easier for the two bulletin editors.

Want to find out why you are who you are? It may be your gut microbes. If you are interested listen to or watch this pod cast from Ted Talks Daily. It is less than 10 minutes and very informative. Kathleen McAuliffe: Do gut microbes control your personality? | TED Talk

                                          SPEAKER

Aaron Guillen from the Better Business Bureau.
The BBB is 112 years this year (opened in 1912).

What BBB does:
  • dispute resolutions
  • business profiles
  • get a quote
  • customer reviews
  • public education
  • scam tracker
  • accreditation
We’re vulnerable:
  • when pressured for time.
  • when emotions are involved.
Have we ever been scammed?
  • Stories included deliveries accepted from Canada Post asking for a fee for address change, giving out bank codes over the phone, sharing credit card information for adding members to Netflix, contacting 1-800 numbers for fixing computer issues, changing credit card lenders, and having money disappear.
Questions:
  • Is it safe to do your banking om your phone?  Yes, for the most part.  Best to go in person if have wonders.
  • For e-transfers – make sure you know who sent it, and whether you’re expecting it.  If no name, or don’t recognize, if not, don’t touch it.  Call your bank to ask if it’s a trusted contact. You could set up automatic transfer.
  • Should you use your Debit Card online or in general?  No, it is more difficult to get your money back if there’s a weird charge.  With Debit there is no ‘pending’ status.
  • What about PayPal? It goes directly from your account, and is more difficult to get money back.

Top 10 Riskiest Scams (2022) are ordered by risk index:
  • (exposure (how often reported)
  • money loss
  • susceptibility (how often people fall for the scam once they are exposed to it).

Top Three Scams
What?
What it entails
What to do
Home Improvement
Paying deposit, work not done, payment before job finished
Say no to cash only or handshake deals, research the company first at BBB.org, ask for references, always have a contract.
Cryptocurrency
Virtual currency, not backed by government, not confirmed to physical form (Bitcoin, etc.).  Hype can hurt, might hear about doubling or tripling your money, but need to know how to trade.
Avoid celebrity endorsements, be wary of friends who reach out to you, don’t believe promises of guaranteed returns.
Advance Fee Loans
Can’t get a loan from a bank, so turn to other sources
Illegal for someone to ask for advance fees, investigate the company, seek loans from traditional lenders.
