Michael – Though he couldn’t make it in person, Michael proudly delivered Rotary’s $5,000 donation to Pathways Clubhouse. They were thrilled, he toured their facilities, and even snapped a few photos for our website. Nothing like seeing our dollars at work — literally — while he gears up for corporate season cleanup.
Mary Lou – Mary Lou cruised in with style this week, her vintage car gleaming brighter than a Halloween pumpkin. She insists retirement is treating her well — she’s swapped stock tips for road trips and declares that joy is her best investment yet.
Bill – Bill just got back from L.A., where he witnessed the Vikings lose, but spirits stayed high thanks to jaw-dropping sports venues. From the massive 60-foot circular screen at the new Clippers’ Intuit Dome to a 100-year-old organ accompanying the Phantom of the Opera, it was quite the cultural swing. He even welcomed all those “new” baseball fans now claiming lifelong devotion.
Kal – Halloween and baseball — Kal’s got both bases covered. He’s beaming with Blue Jays pride and reminds us our club has its own connection to the team’s history.
Marg – Between tennis, baseball, and hockey, Marg’s sporting life is full — but her patience with the Canucks’ new seating plan isn’t. After years of loyalty, she found her seats downsized and relocated, but at least she scored an autographed jersey as consolation.
Sam – Sam’s been busy flipping — literally. Two backflips in a row at gymnastics! When not defying gravity, he’s helping members with criminal record checks. Bring your phone, your ID, and maybe some applause.
Lawrence – Lawrence’s Halloween “jewel thief” costume was a hit (or at least a head-scratcher). Between costume chaos, kid errands, and a locked-out laptop, he’s discovered just how helpless life feels without a working password.
Brian – Brian’s dating life is heating up — though his and his new lady’s parenting schedules are hilariously mismatched. They sneak in time when the kids “ditch” them, proving romance is alive and well between hockey games and curling tournaments.
Garth – Garth’s house is about to get quieter — his wife’s off to Mexico City for a month. He recommends a Gary Mason article on Trump (for those who dare) and reports that choir rehearsals nearly did him in after two marathon recording nights.
Sandra – Big thanks from Sandra to Debbie, Michael, and Larry for an amazing Halloween bash — great food, great décor, and great fun. She also shared how a funny “bacon costume” connection from years ago just led her to a new pool repair hero. Rotary magic strikes again!
Melinda – Melinda’s back — and glowing after a sleepover with her youngest grandchild, who melted hearts by declaring Grandma her “favorite.” She’s also showing off a new waterproof louvered patio roof and dreams of hosting a party under it soon. A tough family goodbye last week reminded her to cherish every moment.
Pat – Pat was all about balance this week: tea, trumpets, and baseball. She swears Costco is the cure for loneliness (though $285 later, she’s not sure it’s worth it). She’s also loving the World Series and thanks everyone for a fabulous Halloween event.
Bobby – Between Blue Jays fandom, hockey, NFL, and trivia night with the kids, Bobby’s week was a sports-fueled blur. His family’s trivia questions — like “how many innings are in baseball?” — provided as many laughs as wrong answers.
Dalbir – From humble beginnings to hockey fandom, Dalbir reflected on his journey and a recent Canadiens game that didn’t disappoint. He and his wife hosted a spectacular kids’ Halloween event at the Richmond Golf Club — fireworks, entertainers, and eight grandchildren safely contained on the 18th green.
John – John had a full week — cheering on the Canucks (but not the Canadiens), attending the Delta Chamber awards with Sandy as his “date,” and celebrating his old football coach, Frank Smith, at a moving tribute. Coach’s philosophy? “Get the horses, point them in the right direction, then get out of the way.”
Blair – Blair’s been juggling baseball excitement and Rotary duties — and promises to keep the fundraising momentum rolling while he’s away next week. After surviving an 18-inning game, he deserves a nap (and maybe a medal).
Elena – Elena kept spirits high at the Halloween party and now looks ahead to a concert fundraiser for the Philippines and a November 1st container loading for Ukraine. Always busy, always leading with heart.
Jeanette – Fresh from a hospital night shift, Jeanette thanked Elena’s husband for the lift and praised the Halloween crew for their hard work. She also volunteered at a vaccine clinic where one loud skeptic tried to heckle — but she stood firm, saving lives one jab at a time.
Danny – Danny’s travel plans could exhaust a frequent flyer: from visiting ill friends in Vancouver hospitals to upcoming trips for Rotary dental missions in the Philippines, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and maybe even India and Thailand. We’ll need a world map — and a Rotary flag — to keep up!
Susan – Between Costco crowds and Microsoft meltdowns, Susan’s week was full of excitement. She’s happy to report her mom is improving, and she’s ready to finally share her long-awaited ClubRunner tutorial next week. Bring coffee — and questions!
Larry – Larry’s house is split on sports — he’s the non-fan, while Steve watches everything that moves on a screen. This week, though, Steve surprised him by cheering for the Blue Jays “because he’s Canadian now.” Their anniversary’s coming up, and Larry’s torn between respecting the “no cards, no gifts” rule and breaking it out of pure tradition. (Our bets are on the card.)
Chris M. – Chris and Rod were honored (literally!) for their pilot costumes at the Halloween party. She’s been deep in CFUW work, organizing the upcoming December 6 vigil for the victims of the 1989 Montreal Massacre. She’s thrilled that bureaucracy finally worked in her favor — one click duplicated last year’s event permit. Miracles do happen.
Joyce – Joyce echoed praise for the Halloween bash and shared her delight at seeing author Louise Penny speak live — a literary lovefest if ever there was one. She’s now bracing for a whirlwind trip south with her granddaughters — wish her luck (and patience)!
Debbie T. – Debbie’s been everywhere: organizing Halloween décor with Debbie Sampson, celebrating friend Fernanda’s “best costume” win, and representing Rotary at the Richmond Addiction Services AGM. She proudly corrected local politicians who claimed there’s no drug education in schools — proof that Rotarians always come prepared with the facts and the flowers.
