sergeant  At Arms Tidbits

Ron says Gung Hay Fat Choy and the weather is restricting his walking, only 6,000 steps yesterday. Not dreaming of a white valentine's day.

Bob says stay warm and have a great weekend.

Amanda has had a great week with great clients and a warm weighted blanket.

Melinda has new flooring at Seafair Gourmet Meats and stay up until 5 AM. Woke up at 9 with a hangover. Had not had one of those in years but 34 years with John has created a love hangover.

Bobby has been kicked out of the kitchen. Watched a boring super bowl in a 15 year old jersey sponsored by Mahal Farms. Probably from when Kal sponsored Dalbir's sons hockey team. He is hoping for snow! What? Another dent in the car maybe?

Mary Lou was reminded of being a smurf at the 2010 Olympics. Genus Capital has been nominated for the Reinvention Environmental Leader Award by the Vancouver Board of Trade. You can go to this Website to learn about it.  Greater Vancouver Board of Trade announces nominees for inaugural Business Reinvention Awards

Sandra was able to stand only 15 minutes of winter gardening before having to return to her home. Must mean we have 6 more weeks of winter!!!! Yikes. Must have seen her shadow.

Debbie M. is happy she finished her relicensing courses. Miles is watching Bosch or maybe it was Borsch. Didn't quit catch it but beets are good for you.

It is Peter's wife's Birthday and he is not making a chocolate mousse but Save On foods will bake it and he will take it.

Joyce reports that Chimo is moving and looking for office furniture.

Dick the Saskatchewan weather man reports that it is -40  and likely -54 at the old homestead with the wind chill factor. ðŸ¥¶

Laurence Bourke was happy to be a guest and apparently loses bets to Bill and never pays. Bill will send Kal and friends to collect.

Marg is enjoying tennis until early in the morning without the hangover. Her birthday lunch last week with friends was excellent. Meal from Seasons in the Park.

Kathy is still helping out at Don's office by staying at home. Payment with chocolate mousse.

Judy and Ralph have had their second vaccines and 4 grandsons looking forward to a sleep over at Grandma's and so is she. First one in a year. Judy and Ralph engaged 50 years ago on Valintine's day.

Chris P. says Mitch had his first non supervised solo flight early in his training and seems to be a natural pilot. Happy with her change of mortgage brokerage.

Kal heard on Team 1040 that Bill has been called up to play for the Canucks tonight. It didn't help! This is assuming Team 1040 is still a sports radio station.

Pat bought flowers for the planters outside but too cold so she is enjoying them inside. Really enjoying the speakers at PETS.

Larry wishes everyone a happy new year, valentine's day and family day.

Brian is running a 6.2 minute k. Allison runs a 5.55 k. Brian runs alone and so far behind Allison that the dust has settled so he doesn't have to eat her dust. Adam is in ski lessons and apparently there is a zombie app.

Dalbir wants a fact check on Kal's Team 1040 report. His friends in Australia are not happy that the Australian Open is being played in covid times.

Ghirra Ghirra (Micheal) is continuing his nefarious training by watching Money Heist(Casa de Papel). Son was accepted as 2 out of 40 for an internship at a Finance and Mortgage Broker..

Garth can't run but hopes to be golfing next week. Working up to 5 hours.

Susan has trained her cat to bite her so she can retire her alarm clock. Mom is doing really well.

Sammy has exciting news in that he and Justin have bought a 3 bedroom 2 bath condo in New Westminster. Second bathroom particularly important as Justin is lactose intolerant and not only doe he eat cheese but he also cuts it.

Bill says stay safe.

I have my anthropology 1100 mid term exam Friday and it is nice to be retired and only taking one class. Netflix recommendation True Detective.

Debbie S. feels obligated to use all the gym equipment that John is buying except the 90 lbs. dumb bells. Apparently the equipment is causing John to watch Yellowstone and listen to the sounds of gun shots and screaming. That's assuming the screaming is not coming from the person who is working out on the new equipment.

Chris told  us about CHIP reverse mortgages, why they are relevant and correct some misinformation. Part of the problem arises from reverse mortgages were unregulated in the US. The Home Equity Bank only does reverse mortgages and receives about 70000 calls per year. Only those 55 years and older qualify and 85% of those over 65 are home owners. About 50% of those who call are financially fine. The other 50% are concerned about finances with cash flow short falls and retiring with debt. 91% want to stay in their homes and do not want a standard mortgage or do not qualify for a standard mortgage. With a reverse mortgage payment is optional and no need for medical check up. You can unlock up to a maximum of 55% of your home value and the proceeds are tax free. The loan can be made in a lump sum or in periodic payments. Interest accrues and current rates are 3.89 - 4.59% for a five year term. (Keep in mind if payments are not made the interest is compounding.) The average loan is 30% of the value of the property and although the balance of the loan may be increasing the value of property is also increasing. Also you will never pay more than you owe so that if the mortgage and interest exceed the sale price when the property is sold the Bank will only take the proceeds of sale. Chris gave examples where reverse mortgages helped someone save their business in a covid shut down, to right size living space, to help kids buy their homes, and to maintain the home after a grey divorce. The transactions costs of taking out a reverse mortgage is about $2,700.00.

Valentine's Day, also called Saint Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated annually on February 14. It originated as a minor Western Christian feast day honoring one or two early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine and, through later folk traditions, has become a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and love in many regions of the world.

There are a number of martyrdom stories associated with various Valentines connected to February 14, including an account of the imprisonment of Saint Valentine of Rome for ministering to Christians persecuted under the Roman Empire in the third century. According to an early tradition, Saint Valentine restored sight to the blind daughter of his jailer. Numerous later additions to the legend have better related it to the theme of love: an 18th-century embellishment to the legend claims he wrote the jailer's daughter a letter signed "Your Valentine" as a farewell before his execution; another addition posits that Saint Valentine performed weddings for Christian soldiers who were forbidden to marry.

The Feast of Saint Valentine was established by Pope Gelasius I in AD 496 to be celebrated on February 14 in honour of Saint Valentine of Rome, who died on that date in AD 269. The day became associated with romantic love in the 14th and 15th centuries when notions of courtly love flourished. In 18th-century England, it grew into an occasion in which couples expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards. Since the 19th century, handwritten valentines have given way to mass-produced greeting cards. (Wikipedia)

So Happy Valentine's Day everyone. Don't forget the flowers and the card!

Also Gung Hay Fat Choy, the year of the OX. Famous Ox are Joyce, Malcolm Brodie and Sandy Marquardt. Ox is a faithful friend that made great contributions to the development of society. Like the ox, people born in the Year of the Ox are industrious, cautious, hold their faith firmly, and always glad to offer help.

TODAYS CHUCKLEs

Provided by Kathy. If you have a joke that you like please feel free to send it in.

A guy took his blonde girlfriend to the Super Bowl game.

They had great seats right behind their team's bench.

After the game, he asked her how she liked it.

"Oh, I really liked it," she replied, "especially the

tight pants and all the big muscles, but I just couldn't

understand why they were killing each other over 25 cents."

Dumbfounded, her boyfriend asked, "What do you mean?"

"Well, they flipped a coin, one team got it,  then for the rest of the game, all they kept screaming was.

'Get the quarterback! Get the quarterback!'

I'm like...Helloooooo? It's only 25 cents!"

There are also Valentine's Day Jokes like:

I once fell in love with someone who only knew 4 vowels. They didn’t know I existed.

What did one blueberry(Kal) say to the other(Lavina) on Valentine's Day?" "I love you berry much."

Who always has a date on Valentine’s Day? A calendar!

HO HO HO those are so funny!!!!
