Bobby’s daughter is coming from Toronto, and they are heading to Whistler, and would like some passes.
Debbie S. announced that Justine had a baby girl Avery Alice who looks exactly like daddy to join the Grandma’s club.

Jeannette’s mother arrived Monday with her sister. Their booking plans for Newfoundland and Labrador, may be up in the air as Air Canada is going on strike so they’re not sure what’s happening with the tickets. She’s glad she went to breakfast at Gilmore, and they made it through with enough pancakes.
Peachy couldn’t come to the breakfast as she is very involved with her clients.
Larry is back from traveling. Once a year he gets together with his sisters for a week of crazy fun, as it’s hard to keep the family together once the matriarch passes. They are in Bellingham tonight to get Steve’s sister from Phoenix, who has never been to Canada, and they have a crazy schedule, wanting to show them the city and the best restaurants. They’re Mormon and don’t drink. In another week or so Larry will be in for another cancer surgery so he’s packing in all the fun he can. Larry is a bit nervous about this weather for his guests.
Micheal’s kids are in school, so he has to get up early. His 4 ½ year old daughter wanted to go to MacDonalds when picked up, so they did. Lots of paperwork happening at the hall.
Pat was in Palm Springs for the week, where it was 118 º, and the taxi driver said it was cooler today, as it had been 121º, then went down to 109º when she left. There are lots of fires in California and the air is smoky.
Sam loves doing the Kiva presentation and looking at the stats. Of the two people who haven’t repaid us, one is in Palestine – so ‘take your time’. It looks like all the loans today will be finished their loans except one, so maybe we can give extra funds to complete that loan. We have more money available and could perhaps put more in the pot.
Bill hosted a Vancouver Canadians event on Sunday for 120 people, and everyone wanted to say hi so it was exhausting. On their hockey team both he and Sam are now defensive partners. During the first game on Monday, late in the first period, someone scored on Sam, and Bill pointed out Sam’s mistake. In the 2nd period, even though Bill rushed in, there was another score, Sam’s fault again. It’s always his fault. Sam’s that is, not Bill.
Mary Lou loves our annual Kiva. It was an emotional service for Linda McPhail, and she saw so many people she knew. Last week they spent a day in Victoria at an Old English Car show at a winery. They went to Comedy of Errors at the Bard. Today Oscar goes to swimming, then Mary Lou will play in the Tee Cup with many of us.
Kal gets the paper delivered, and checks the obituaries for his name, but last week saw a buddy had passed away, a great guy from the Prairies and he streamed the service. He has joined Monday night football at Legends, and his nephew Mason saw him and wondered what Uncle Kal was doing there! For the next 17 weeks they’ll hang together.
Debbie M. said that Manuel came home on Tuesday. Miles and Debbie went to a wedding. She is happy for Debbie S. who joined the grandparents club.
Judy says the kids are back in school and she picks Jack up after kindergarten. He got his first pair of skates and helmet and wants to wear them all the time. She is prepping him that he might fall on the ice. She treated herself to the Fairmont Pacific Rim Spa, a gift certificate from warren, then went shopping – a great day.
Marg’s brother arrived last night with his daughter, they have things planned like football, Canucks, Whistler, (zipline) and the rock-climbing wall. They were watching news and discussing Trump, and her brother wanted BBC news but was told they don’t have it. They will stay for 2 ½ weeks, (he usually comes for 6 weeks). He has pancreatic cancer and has his return ticket on Air Canada. One of the parents at Gilmore breakfast was a former student and introduced her son and baby to Marg, still sees her best friends, and has become a welder, the only person in her group, but doesn’t make enough money to support her family without moving somewhere else.
Chris B. loves the yearly KIVA! At least she thought we should do KIVA every year. She’s been teaching the REAP program on Zoom twice a week, and puts them in breakout rooms all the time. It was a sad funeral for Linda McPhail.
Joyce has been playing lots of golf, but the putting was taking detours and going round and round. She is looking forward to the Tee Cup today.
Lawrence defends Chris B. as he didn’t now either that Kiva happened every year, (but he just rejoined). His band tries to record and has music coming out. It’s on Spotify, called the Brehdren group. It’s a ska rock band – reggae but faster. The name means brothers or friends.
Chris M. was away last week as they closed up the cabin for the year. It’s so sad to have the last lakeside fire and romantic evening. It has been non-stop social events all week including her daughter’s father-in-law’s 70th birthday, her daughter-in-law’s birthday dinner and hosting Rod’s Book Club, featuring “The Housekeeper and the Professor” – a gentle book celebrating the beauty of math, baseball and the Japanese culture. Olivia, Matt and baby Eleanor leave for 3 weeks in Europe on Saturday and the house will feel very empty. They have a rat problem, which is being solved, as yesterday they saw a dead rat on the fence and wondered how to get rid of it, then saw a falcon holding it with its talons deeply embedded. In a moment, the rat was gone. They hope the falcon comes back for the others.
Dalbir says that with Handy Dart on strike, his mother-in-law has to take a cab, not easy with the wheelchair and the drivers have been great. We need to support the cab companies.
John has rats under his shed, and on the grapevine trellis.
The rats climb the vine and the dog barks. The grapes are falling, and it smells like his father’s basement when making home made wine. He went to an Ismaili funeral, with about 600 people. Families and friends come to say a prayer over the body, forgiving the person for what they did to you over their lifetimes.
Blair was there too and says only men are allowed to go to the cemetary when the body is taken there, an Ismaili tradition. He confirms that Bob Shoker is still alive, as he was there.
Amanda liked the Gilmore breakfast and said congrats to Debbie S. She is going to the airport to pick up her nephew and his wife. They’re going to the outdoor comedy festival in Stanley Park and will have a fun weekend.
Melinda went to the Seahawk game, and thought John was going to have a heart attack, told him to calm down as she was also watching the game. It will be an interesting season coming up. Her friend Gail is retiring from Love’s Auctions, and posted an antique safe which Melinda got. They needed a crane truck for it, as it weighs over 5000 lbs. It cost as much to get it there as they paid for the safe. It is out of Hudson’s Bay jewelry store from years ago and is massive and the stupidest (but coolest) thing they’ve ever bought. So far, nothing is in it.
