Bobby had a bunch of October birthdays for the Ghirra family and also spent a few days in Whistler. He is grateful and thankful to be in Canada, BC, and Vancouver. As we all are and also grateful you are here.
Sandra congratulated Debbie S. on her fundraiser, with three tables full of succulents. Sandra’s Company on the last day of national sales meeting took the group to the Flying Beaver and enjoyed a perfect sunset with bonus landing float planes. A great day to show off Richmond.
Richard (as in Rocket) aka Dick lives on the dike so he much appreciated last weeks presentation as it provided him comfort about future water events. Barb had cataract surgery that she apparently caught from Dick - possibly the cataract. So, for about a week they will be driving with two eyes, Barb has one and Dick has the other.
Susan is very thankful for all of the great things going on in her life particularly that Ryan is enjoying SFU and all of us for being friends.
Pat had a meal at the Chop House and it was excellent. Going to grandson’s hockey games in Richmond. Wished everyone a happy thanksgiving.
Peachy was in Richmond to support our mayor. She met all his supporters, and he is a very good man with lots of energy. She is training on personal care software and it makes scheduling clients easy.
Elena’s guest Jeanette said yes to joining our club and will fill out application 🥳. Had a celebration with her grandson. This last weekend held sign for Malcolm and enjoyed talking to all the volunteers.
Joyce had a good week working too much in “retirement” retirement. Will be visiting the interior.
Chris B. spent the weekend Berma shaving for Malcolm’s campaign and driver’s would react with honks, waves, or sometimes the Royal Salute 🖕 It is called Berma Shaving because that is how the men’s shaving gel was advertised in the US along highways with signs. Tuesday night was the first candidates' debate with 8 councillors and two for mayor. The people on council are insulted and called unkind things. There is another debate in Steveston tonight and it is speed dating style. Was this how Mork met Mindy? Joe met Kamila?
Peter is watching grandkids in soccer this weekend and maybe will play Pat’s grandson with or without skates. The tournament kick off time is 9:30 for both and then at noon. Sunday two games each and Monday playoffs.
Kal had a great lunch with Rotarians and celebrated Dalbir’s wife, Kal’s birthday. He also had lunch with Shoker and Ron Schuss who misses us. Also called out the cowards who attacked the Komagata Maru memorial at night.
Bill was travelling somewhere to watch the Vikings (they are at home so it must be Minnesota) and the Canucks. His hockey team, of which the ringer, our ex-member Lawrence is a member, swept all three rounds of playoffs and won three hundred dollars.
Sam had a sleep over with a two-year-old, just before his birthday – Sam’s that is. He thought going through a car wash would be a good way to terrify the kid and it worked. The kid was up at 4:30 and then up again early and finally slept in the same bed. He had a wonderful party party - Sam that is. With one dressed for a retirement party looking like his mom, another Christmas, Easter, gender reveal and cyber Monday.
Micheal went to Portland Oregon and Seattle on a road trip with family. Stayed in the Hyatt suite so they could do the cooking and had a good time. His first time in Portland which is a nice old city with lots of trees right next to skyscrapers. He is starting work tonight for four nights.
Garth said that Portland was laid on at an angle because they apparently hired two surveyors and one used magnetic north and the other used true north. Had no judge Monday so the Trial is scheduled for next February. Sadly, no where to golf this week. Not my fault. But Garth has donated something in the range of 274 pints of blood.
Chris M. has been so busy the last two months she has wondered where she is. She was at a cabin on a lake off the grid. Then a week in Victoria cat sitting for niece with mancun cats one that lay on top of her all night. She would move to Victoria because of the walking trails and the food. She golfed in three different 9 holes with Mount Douglas wide open but the Ridge was all cliffs water and then the green lost six balls. She is hosting 15 people on thanksgiving. Then off with friends to spirit ridge to golf and play bridge, wine is not optional. Then to Mexico. It is her first Fall retirement and making the most of it.
I had my 50th + 2 reunion as I graduated in 1970 but covid postponed the reunion until this year when we also all happened to turn 70. Couldn’t believe how good every one looked. I graduated from Burnaby South along with other famous grads like Christine Sinclair and Michael J. Fox.
Debbie S. succulent fundraiser had all 120 planters sold by 2 PM and raised $2,200. Great job Debbie. She says give people a chance to be kind and generous and they will be. This could be our inspirational quote.
Gordon thanked everyone for anecdotes.
Melinda’s third grandchild will be induced- that is her daughter in law will be on Monday. We look forward to hearing all about it next week. John will have his eye opened tomorrow. He has a scab that is starting to fall off and the new growth skin looks really good. They do not have the pathology report yet.
