Announcements
Oh Canada featuring live and in person Gordon and Garth. Did it sound sweet.
"When I am in Canada I feel this is what the world should be like." - Jane Fonda, Actor
"Canada is the homeland of equality, justice and tolerance." - Kim Campbell
Although as noted during S at A we do not always live up to it.
Visitors
Oscar at the end and visions of members past who may come once again to be unpast members(or unleave of absence members) and travel our hallowed banquet halls chanting the four fold test for all of us to behold!!!!
sergeant At Arms Tidbits
Susan was leaving for work but had time to tell us that Ryan now has a job as a life guard.
Carolyn is not yet ready for indoor meetings but that's okay cause the family is back in the bubble and life is noisy once again. Nice!🥳
I reported that the Skaha Creek fire had been a wall flame but that the air in the Okanagan for the most part was clear.
Mary Lou is off to the cabin and for the first time in a while not on evacuation alert. Lytton looks like it suffered the apocalypse.
Chris M. was our zoom host, and was also glad she was retired. Four month old puppy slept until 6 AM 🥳 Training for elections Canada has been bumpy. Probably so has puppy training.
Dalbir took the granddaughter to the Vancouver Zoo and commented on the sad looking animals. Had a young healthy friend who died of a heart attack so get a check up if you are having health issues.
Melinda visited with friends from Prince Rupert and is now off to Osoyoos.
Dick enjoyed hearing about the BBQ and sported new glasses. He reminded us that without vision you cannot see anything.
Elena enjoyed the BBQ and is training for elections Canada.
Gordon expressed his sadness at the treatment of the first responders at the protests.
Debbie S. had a great adventure on a muddy slippery and crazy 4 day hike on the West Coast Trail. Had to take a 13 hour detour partly in the dark around a tide covered beach but when they got to the camp the other campers had boiled them some water. As the oldest group by far they were named the Queens. When they finally got to the end the local pub was covid closed. British ladies to the rescue with cheezies (not Hawkins) tortillas and a bottle of wine. Debbie fell once but fortunately not injured. Has now completed the entire West Coast Trail. 🥳
Judy got through the celebration of what would have been her 50th wedding anniversary. Still has the $32 bill spent for their wedding night in a downtown hotel. The honeymoon was a tour of the BC interior including Merritt and Penticton. One night spilled pizza on the floor and ate it anyway. The 5 second rule has been around for a long time. Had a Magnum of Ralph's favourite wine.
Marg spent her honeymoon at home and her wedding night sleeping on the floor with no mattress. Celebrated Don's birthday at the Blue Canoe who has returned to work full time.
Debbie M. warned those with implants that there have been extensive recalls including hers two years ago. One of the side effects could be blood cancer. If you know anyone let her know and she will send a link with the information. Daughter now on mat leave.
Garth is now rehearsing in person with the choir and hopes to perform at an upgraded St. Andrews church.
Bill sent me a text last week saying My's wedding was in Sweden and he was in Stockholm. Curiously the Bulletin last week reported that he had returned from Denmark - weird huh? In other news Julia (if I heard correctly) is our exchange student for the VEP and Bill will be attending the first session.
Sam said something about designing a bear proof garbage can and the overlap of human and bear intelligence to be able to open it. Sam is going camping in a tent with a brick wall and fire place. And Moose and Justin I hope.
Bobby spend Thursdays at Rotary then lunch with mom gave many thanks to Larry and gave his time at Whistler to his brother.
Larry is happy he is no longer the only queen in the club. Now that he attends in person he misses wearing his PJ's. Busy at work and life is getting back together.
Sandra lost a key employee so is very busy at work. Is a biker not a hiker.
Kal was at the BBQ and had a Spanish coffee spilled on him. There's no vaccine for that.
Peter had friends who did the West Coast Trail and three walls, ocean and a log apparently not enough privacy for one of them. No need for a shit shovel.🥳
Michael was back from Whistler where he had been with family. Usually Monday Tuesday not busy but was really busy with no on going to the Okanagan and a lot of Albertians. At the PNE last night and ate food from every food kiosk topped off with a bucket of mini donuts. One year old+ daughter walking like a zombie.
Chris B. really enjoyed the PNE as only 20% attendance so line up and rides seemed short. Off to Barbados with daughter to experience a swim up bar. 🥳
Pat spent $1,100 to remove some bushes from her property. Sprayed for grubs in the lawn but racoons still ripped up the lawn and smart enough to avoid the cages.
speaKER
Mary Lou our membership and mentor chair was our speaker today and provided us with the stats that there are still 1.2 million members and 35,000 clubs. The motto this year is "Service to Change Lives."
We are looking for people who want to give back to their communities. Members are accepted by invitation.
Benefits are:
•Discuss your community’s needs and develop creative ways to meet them
•Connect with other leaders who are changing the world
•Expand your leadership and professional skills
•Catch up with good friends and meet new ones
Also as was pointed out volunteering is good for your health, lengthens your life and makes you a happier person.
As a Club Member you are obligated to pay dues, attend meetings and special events and use your skills and talents to make a difference. We now have more female than male members and well over half of us are over 60. We have 39 members with 2 on leave that we hope are coming back in the next few months. Only 12 of us have sponsored new members.
What keeps you coming back to Rotary? Dalbir says we are a Rotary Family with a wonderful support network that has been there for all of us in difficult times. More of a family support network than a club. Marg says she loves the people. All sentiments we can agree with.

One evening a husband, thinking he was being funny said to his wife “Perhaps you should start washing your clothes with slim fast. Maybe it would take a few inches off your butt.” His wife was not amused (duh) and decided she could not simply let such a comment go unnoticed. The next morning her husband took a pair of his underwear out of the drawer. “What the heck is this??” he said to himself as a little cloud of dust appeared when he shook them out. “Maria,” he hollered, “Why did you put baby powder in my underwear?” She giggled and replied, “that’s not baby powder it’s miracle grow.”
Police arrested two kids yesterday, one was drinking battery acid, the other was eating fireworks. They charged one – and let the other one off.
