Garth – Big news from Garth’s choir: the grand “CD release” with no actual CDs! Everything’s gone digital now — streaming is the new encore. On the drive home, real life hit a wrong note when a careless driver clipped his bumper. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but it’s now an ICBC duet.
Dalbir – Diesel drama! His ex-wife’s beloved BMW X5 gave up the ghost right after last week’s meeting — timing chain kaput just a block from home. Now he’s on a quest for another diesel, reminiscing about the old days when even Ralph’s Envoy died in Manning Park and somehow cost more to fix than it was worth. Dalbir’s conclusion: cars are fun… when they actually run.
Kal – Still waving the Blue Jays flag proudly despite their playoff heartbreak — he’s been a fan since before the bandwagon rolled in. He also mentioned the tragic plane crash in Kentucky, a sober reminder of how quickly life can change. On a lighter note, he discovered his Range Rover can hit 61… hopefully not through WashWorld.
Marg – With the counter cleared for the season, Marg is officially off duty — time for sports and more sports. She’s hoping the next hockey game she attends outshines last night’s, because even her patience has a penalty limit.
Susan – Brief and mysterious this week — “I think I’ve talked enough.” For Susan, that’s the sign of a satisfying week!
Lawrence – Survived a soggy Halloween with kids and dogs in tow — naturally, the rain stopped the moment he stepped outside. At work, his team’s “Rec Room Fridays” are the perfect cure for the post-week slump: pizza, video games, and relaxation. Work-life balance achieved, one joystick at a time.
Maryam – Her week started strong with a lively Breakfast Club turnout — happy kids, happy Rotarians. The post-Halloween sugar crash, however, has turned her classroom into a circus, so she’s powering through with coffee and good humor.
Mary Lou – suffering through a two-week bout of illness. Has not left home.
Amanda – Between reusing Halloween costumes and juggling a hyperactive Graham, Amanda’s week has been a blur of sugar and study. She’s deep into her next set of sommelier courses — a perfect excuse to “study” with a glass in hand. She’s also staying for the post-meeting follow-up, proving multitasking pairs well with Merlot.
Chris M. – Working hard on the December 6th vigil for the UBC Women’s Club at Library Square. She’s rallying Rotarians to join and hopes to borrow the Rotary tent again for some great visibility. If you’re working that Saturday — nice try, no excuses!
Bobby – Took a moment for a heartfelt reminder: words matter. Whether joking or serious, our comments can affect each other, so a little extra care goes a long way. He also clarified some confusion over mistaken identities (he’s Bobby, not Michael or Sanjeev!). On a grateful note, he celebrated family, the Blue Jays, and his father for bringing them to this great country.
Larry – After too much work, Larry’s plotting a luxury escape — tagging along on his partner Steve’s business trip across Vancouver Island. He’ll be “working hard” relaxing in Victoria and Nanaimo while someone else foots the bill. And though not a sports fan, he’s catching Blue Jays fever — maybe it’s contagious!
Elena – Enjoyed a vibrant Día de los Muertos performance at the Vancouver Playhouse, directed by a dear friend from Mexico. Even her reluctant husband was won over by the music and the crowd’s energy. She also thanked Larry for a lovely lunch — good company all around!
Jeanette – Had a good laugh after a friendly mix-up this morning — Larry called her by the wrong name, but she handled it with her trademark humor. Halloween in the hospital was lively, fireworks and all, while patients and staff made the best of the celebration.
Michael – Pulled off last-minute Halloween heroics, scoring bargain-bin costumes at Winners the day before — a mad scientist and Princess Jasmine stole the show. He shared a wild story from his locksmith, who narrowly missed being at the Louvre during a $100M jewel heist — and joked he might’ve “Tom Cruise’d” the scene if he’d brought his glass cutter.
John – Brought an industrial insight this week from a podcast about Amazon’s robot revolution — 25% of warehouse jobs going automated. The kicker?
Pat – After years of quiet Halloweens, she finally had two brave trick-or-treaters — despite her lights being off and no candy in sight. She’s preparing better for next year. Also still nursing heartbreak over the Jays’ near miss — it all came down to one wedged ball.
Sandra – Little Miller had his first taste of chocolate — a single Smartie that sent him into orbit. Between a national sales meeting and a jam-packed schedule, Sandra’s juggling it all. She promises to reply to her emails soon (we believe her).
Melinda – Nearly skipped Halloween because of the rain but ended up having a blast watching her grandkids haul home record-breaking candy loads. Some kids took the “help yourself” signs a little too literally! She’s proud of her daughter-in-law for redistributing the sugar surplus to those who missed out. Tonight, she’s trading candy for country — heading to the Eric Church concert, thrilled as ever.
Brian – Warned Judy never to take up poker — apparently, her face gives everything away. He shared a hilarious story about overreacting to Halloween candy costs during his divorce, proving therapy is pricier than chocolate. With the rain setting in, he’s heading camping — because nothing says “emotional clarity” like a soggy tent.
Judy – Back from a sunny Mexican getaway filled with Día de los Muertos festivities, Canadian baseball fans, and one too many loud Americans. She returned home to chaos — insurance adjusters suddenly scheduling her move-out and flooring replacement without warning. Her solution? Postpone it all until January and pour champagne for her son Jack’s 6th “champagne birthday.”
Debbie T. – Proud of the Jays despite that heartbreaking missed run. Spent Halloween decorating for 25 kids and medicating her poor dog through the fireworks frenzy. Her granddaughter Maxine, dressed as a frog, stole the night — outlasting her parents to enjoy a candy feast. Debbie also braved a wild adventure trying to find a Delta Chamber meeting her GPS refused to locate — two hours of U-turns later, she declared it an “exercise in patience” and called it a night.
