Chris P. was having issues? No surprise there. Claimed they were computer issues? Un huh! Busy with tax and mortgage season. Feeling a bit scattered.

Amanda was finding a bump in business because of the threatened closure of health districts.

Debbie T. is going camping new age. It may be in her driveway which must be cleaned out by now. Or area 52, beamed up in an UFO? Drew says "I'm back!"

Brian still goes running with Alison - motivation beer and pretzels. Root beer for Alison. Playing musical offices and Brian will have one if he finishes the spackling and painting before the music stops.

Garth apparently locked in a Gulag with the Irish stairway to heaven behind him.

Carolyn was having laptop problems that may have been infected from Chris P.'s computer, cross species virus spread - double mutant. Has ordered a new one, laptop that is. She says may need to order part of a new brain as well.

Elena was feeding crows with bread and ham and the squirrels were fed nuts.

Susan's act of kindness was letting out the cat before it woke up the rest of the household.

Danny had an app that indicated he would be able to see the aurora borealis from the Fraser Valley. Unfortunately he was unable to see it this time. Next time he is going north and probably climbing a mountain.

Pat enjoyed the O'Canada, is changing her winter tires, reminded us that June 26th is the President's Dinner.

Melinda is sharing all 7 of her asparagus sprouts.

Ron has been travelling extensively all the way to Steveston, the grocery store and his office. He may have a vaccine passport.

Gordon says to dig the earth and put in plants.

I am moving my birthday to May as then I can celebrate all month. Also finally moving from my mid 60s to late 60s.

Dick last saw his late brother a year ago. Thanked everyone for  their condolences and will be attending a virtual service.

Debbie M. has been to the driving range. Trying to get Miles to take golf lessons. Planting the garden.

Judy has been enjoying the nice weather. Her random act of kindness was to pay at Starbucks for the car behind her. Spencer is scheduled for his vaccine.

Kathy is living with the consequences of having Don take up golfing. Costs of accessories for golf, then having to buy a second car so he can go golfing without her. That aspect was welcome.

Marg had caught up on her email and read paper while waiting for S at A. Don has now been vaccinated and spent their anniversary in zoom meetings. Ben is busy with work, working out, and soccer.

Kal will be watching the Dave Hamilton memorial.

Bobby's was the birthday boy and his gift was 15 bags of manure. Had a nice lunch with mom and enjoyed many celebrations.

Peter had a good time fishing in his new boat outside of Hope. Good weather but no fish.

Sandra wanted to go for a walk out at UBC. Mother had told her never go to wreck beach. Drugs and such you know. But went anyway. Beach is beautiful with great views of ocean and mountains. Not so great view of man with hat shirt but no pants. Also tough climb up from the beach.

Mary Lou has been enjoying golf, eagles overhead, the mountains tax season and emails. Has nominated Oscar to be our youngest member yet. I think he would get the youth discount. He could be president by the time he is 10! A new record! Sorry Sam.

Speaking of Sam, Justin's Bday was a success. Bad news is friend's Mom has cancer thanks to Melinda for help organizing a care package. One of Sam's clients sang the national anthem at the Canucks game. A proud moment. Good work Sam.

Bill Happy Birthday and Anniversary all. Bill has his final exam in Ancient Greek Political Thought. Blessed that he will not have to read any of it again. Some of it may have been Greek to him.

Debbie S. had some nice family time with daughter Nikki and met her new beau, Nikki's that is. Heading to see Mom and Dad before next lock down. Is entertained by "Who Killed Sarah?"

Corrections from last week. Theme of 2021 - 2022 is Serve to Change Lives. Our RI President Elect is Shekhar Mehta. There were not 21 - 22 courses but 21 course times offered. My apologies.

Speaking of Shekhar, we had the pleasure of listening to his speech at PETS. Here are some of the highlights.

He emphasized enhancing participation and engagement. He urged clubs to expand membership and increase our impact in the world. "Do more, grow more" and "Each one bring one" were two slogans he used to motivate club presidents to grow their clubs and have an impact on their communities. His goal is to increase membership from 1.2 million to 1.3 million. Each new member is a matter of celebration and the drive should be directed at younger candidates and female candidates. RI will honour the highest membership sponsors in the Archie Clump Society. Retention is also important and this is achieved through engagement of members. Dream big, use your vision make a plan and instead of "why" ask "why not?" Stretch your goals, share them with others, delegate and keep your members motivated. Lubricate the egos of your members and lead from the front. Dream big, take risks and serve to change lives. If you would like to hear his talk again here is the link. Shekar Mehta

Meanderings

Just to demonstrate that your bulletin is not Eurocentric I provide the following difference between Vaisakhi and Wasabi:

Vaisakhi  is observed by Hindus and Sikhs. It also marks the beginning of Hindu solar New year. Vaisakhi marks the first day of the month of Vaisakha, is usually celebrated on 13 or 14 April every year and is a historical and religious festival in Hinduism and Sikhism. This holiday is also known as Vaisakha Sankranti and celebrates the Solar new year, based on the Hindu Vikram Samvat calendar. It is additionally a spring harvest festival for many Indians. For Hindus, the festival is their traditional solar new year, a harvest festival, an occasion to bath in sacred rivers such as Ganges, Jhelum, and Kaveri, visit temples, meet friends and take part in other festivities. In other parts of India, the Vaisakhi festival is known by various regional names.

Vaisakhi is also a historical and religious festival in Sikhism. It is usually celebrated on 13 or 14 April every year. For Sikhs, Vaisakhi observes major events in the history of Sikhism and the Indian Subcontinent that happened in the Punjab region. The significance of Vaisakhi as a major Sikh festival marking the birth of Sikh order started after the persecution and execution of Guru Tegh Bahadur for refusing to convert to Isalm under the orders of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. This triggered the coronation of Guru Gobind Singh the tenth Guru of Sikhism and the historic formation of Khalsa, both on the Vaisakhi day. Ranjit Singh was proclaimed as Maharaja of the Sikh Empire on 12 April 1801 (to coincide with Vaisakhi), creating a unified political state. Sahib Singh Bedi, a descendant of Guru Nanak dev, conducted the coronation. Vaisakhi was also the day when the British colonial empire official, General Reginald Dyer, committed the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 379 at an event of Indian movement against colonial rule in Amritsar Punjab.

On Vaisakhi, Mandirs and Gurdwaras are decorated. Hindus perform a mandatory Daan (charity) especially of hand fans, water pitchers and seasonal fruits. A ritual dip in Ganga river or other holy water bodies is often performed. Community fairs are held at Hindu pilgrimage sites. In many areas, procession of temple deities is taken out. Sikhs hold kirtans, visit local Gurdwaras, community fairs and nagar kirtan processions are held, and people gather to socialize and share festive foods.

On the other hand, Wasabi or Japanese horseradish is a plant of the family Brassicaceae, which also includes horseradish and mustard in other genera. A paste made from its ground rhizomes is used as a pungent condiment for sushi and other foods. It is similar in taste to hot mustard or horseradish rather than chili peppers in that it stimulates the nose more than the tongue. Most wasabi flavoring in commerce is, however, ersatz, based on horseradish and food coloring.

So now you know!

TODAYS CHUCKLEs

              🤪

So I got my covid shot on Tuesday. So here are a couple of medical jokes. I am expecting to be able to play the piano after my shot.

Patient: “Will I be able to play the piano after this covid shot?”
Nurse: “Sure! Of course!”
Patient: “That’s awesome because I couldn’t before!”

Nurse to doctor, “There’s a man in the waiting room who thinks he is invisible.”
Doctor, “Tell him I can’t see him.”

Or maybe instead I will have side effects like a cookie.

Why did the cookie go to the hospital?
Because it felt crummy.
