Blair unaware of Elena's inspiring and amazing work. He was golfing at Furry Creek and the weather was good. Lost six and found three - so he was 3 under for the day. Not Bad. 🏌️♂️
Mary Lou (who herself is an energizer bunny) said she was exhausted by how hard Elena works. Mary Lou has been away for three weeks in Massachusetts and the cabin. She visited with Lindsay in Cape Cod with a population of 3500 in winter and 60,000 in the summer. Lindsay lives in a compound with visual artists and writers. She has her own studio as one of the artists, receives a stipend and accommodation with the opportunity to share and display work. Boston was great but don’t go there on St Patrick’s Day. Baby sat the grand dog for 8 days..
John had a great family dinner with all his kids who are good friends and his dog seems to have recovered with the last Xray Friday.
Peter went to Harrison which is starting to show it’s age. The milk tea and omelette stations are gone apparently because of covid and it costs $500 a night, which feels like your getting milked. Facilities are fine but wearing. It was good to get together with family over easter.
Judy had a nice easter at Birch Bay for easter egg hunt. It was fun to see a four year old who is excited about every candy. The older children would help the youngest find eggs. She celebrated her daughter in law’s birthday which is also close to Ralphs. Spencer said he would bake the cake but it ended up cooking brownies – mis-identified cake mix box?
Debbie M’s son in law Manuel is not doing well from all the treatments and toxins in his system which they are trying to remove. They had easter brunch and the egg hunt for Amelia was so exciting even with pecans and raisins. Then there was Debbie’s easter egg hunt and finally a Pre school easter egg hunt. Oh and it was Miles birthday he can get his “N”. He has spent enough hours driving with Debbie.
Kal thinks of the hard ships of his grand parents during Sikh heritage month. He has survived 25 years in the club and the club has survived him. His is going to El Giardino to celebrate the 33 years best years of Lavina’s life or it is possibly their wedding anniversary. In which case???
Bill is off to Calgary, Iceland, the Canary Islands and finally London. He is waiting for TV commercial to be broadcast? He was told to talk slower (good luck with that). They had 14 takes which apparently is average.
Sam continues with the LGBTQ hockey team and really enjoys being part of the community and the opportunities from it. Representatives of Canucks approached the team to feature minor hockey leagues that emphasize inclusion and diversity in hockey. Apparently, it is a white sport started by Nat Baily on Granville Street in the 1950s. Sam loves hockey and being gay especially with all those two things coming together.
Marg (after Chris P. finished her presentation) told us she, Marg that is, had a great easter weekend with people for dinner. The student we sent to RYLA, who had been very anxious about it, had the best time of her life and had trouble saying goodbye. Easter egg hunts are exciting and a 4 year old boy said the adults should look for them. So the adults had to find the hard boiled eggs. She also had a nice visit with 14 fellow teachers that she had worked with.
Michael had Temple elections from 8 – 8 on the weekend and 1611 people voted and his slate won with 130 votes. He will be the face of the Temple as the Assistant General Secretary this means apparently they are going to let him speak. Sundays will be long at the Gurdwara from now on. The vote was confrontational and they almost called the police when the other side realized they were going to lose. Michael has been going to the temple going every Sunday for last 17 years.
Elena spent easter with her family and another grandchild coming.
Gordon has never experienced a Rotary election where the police were called (but he has had to call a taxi – too much Macallan perhaps). Impressed by what Elena is doing to spread the reach of Rotary throughout the world. He has seen it happening in different parts of the world. His son is in Toronto on the project to replace HSBC with RBC and it is crazy. HSBC branches closed last Friday and reopened as RBC on Tuesday.
Debbie T. spent a couple weeks in Mexico on a working holiday in the mornings and then happy hour in the afternoon. She also went snorkeling and on a boat trip. After returning home they were fine all-day Wednesday and then starting barfing (reverse Montezuma’s revenge). They managed to get to Safeway and grabbed a turkey for dinner for the two of them. She is sorry about Manuel and this issue is why she does the tour de cure. The awareness vehicle is ready and the drive to destigmatize drug abuse there will be a car parade on April 14th in recognition of the overdose crises.
Amanda tragically lost two friends recently from overdose while at home using alone. One was a dad. Her cousin who is getting married is pregnant has scheduled a dry wedding because if she can’t have fun then no one can. She had too much food on Easter with Graham’s family. Had the lamb shoulder for $26 at Lulu’s Taverna. She reports there are coyotes around everywhere.
Chris P. will not take any more time. Her lips were sealed.
Melinda is amazed at the amount of work that Elena does. The container that went missing with the ebikes, had one that was to be Johns. Willow was so excited and happy to see John she gave him a fat lip. 
Larry reported that Steve returned from Vegas with more money than when he left. Larry was at Birch Bay for a couple days. Ukrainian easter brunch at 6:30 with his sons family. Then another dinner with daughter in law at the Mennonite church with 30 people. His grand kids are grown up now so they will get things for him. He is doing okay and he is going to quit complaining.
Sandra reported that Miller is home after 25 days in hospital. They are treating the symptoms with tube for a few months. This weekend she and Brian are looking after him on Saturday. Children’s hospital is fantastic, and the care is remarkable. Nobody looks after the child like your own and they and the other grandparents would spend some nights with him at the hospital. Sandra would take Miller to the old side of the hospital and show him were she used to work. She thanked the club for the support that really helped her. It will be a long road for Miller but he will be okay. She and Brian went out for his birthday at Kissotanto.
Pat commented on the remarkable job by Elena. She also reminded us of the dental mission, with Danny and his daughter and wife. Pat is very concerned as her 13 year old Grandson is very ill and not yet diagnosed.
Jeanette is so proud of Elena for helping the needy in her country. She locked the key in her car and waited for an hour but the first person who came along would not let her into the garage. She had to wait another hour for the next person, who was doing some work on the building, to let her in.
Debbie S. awarded the official Rotary pen to Elena. Debbie’s neighbours across the street hit easter eggs in the back yard and the racoons proceeded to eat them all. Plan B was hiding the eggs on the beach. She had easter dinner with family.
Bob’s mom had some pain in her chest last week and couple days later she had it again. She didn’t tell anybody because she did not want to complain. She then had pain for five or six hours and it had spread to her shoulder. She was taken to Richmond General and tests showed she was having a heart attack. By 4 o’clock she was at VGH and had a stent put in. Mom did not want to bother any body. It was scary for the whole family.
