Amanda’s charging into the pre-Christmas season at full speed — work chaos, endless birthday parties, and not enough hours in the day. She’s fully vaccinated (flu and COVID) and ready to power through the madness… or at least try.
John
John had a nostalgic week reflecting on his late UBC football coach — a man so intense he once berated John for wearing his socks inside-out. Apparently, the lesson stuck! Back home, he’s still deep in renovations (gas and heat crises temporarily averted) and questioning which end of the house is presentable enough to show anyone.
Lawrence
Lawrence celebrated his daughter’s birthday in delicious style — Nutella crepes, whipped cream, and thick-cut bacon (parenting done right). Thanksgiving plans to Vancouver Island were scrapped due to illness, but a cozy weekend at home turned out to be just what the family needed. He’s now working from home, savoring that “Saturday energy” on a weekday.
Garth or perhaps someone else - can't tell from the
Garth’s attending a funeral this afternoon for a colleague who bravely fought cancer for five years. A tough day ahead, but he’s also teaching a course later — proving that even solemn days don’t slow him down.
Larry
Larry’s back from an epic three-week adventure that started in Manhattan and was supposed to head to the Caribbean — until the cruise line pulled a fast one and rerouted him to Boston, Portland, and Bermuda. No complaints, though: lobster, linen, and luxury galore! He shopped Macy’s into near-bankruptcy, scored massive discounts, and may need extra luggage to haul it all home. Platinum cruise status awaits — and perhaps a storage locker for the overflow.
Peachy
Peachy’s been out socializing so much her son’s starting to notice! She recently visited another Rotary club for lunch at Seasons in the Park — only to discover a grand total of five attendees. The food was great, the company… sparse. She left grateful for her own club’s lively turnout (and cheaper lunches).
Elena
Elena’s sporting sore arms after getting both flu and COVID shots, but she soldiered through to make the meeting. Thanksgiving with family and mission planning for next year filled her week — a balance of gratitude and giving.
Jeanette
Jeanette’s turned into the ultimate party planner. Between a bridal shower, two baby showers, a retirement party, and a Christmas bash — she’s basically running HR and event management for her workplace.
Danny
Danny’s birthday adventures spanned Alaska (complete with a stormy sea day) and Mexico, where he celebrated by feeding and gifting nearly 100 children with toys, school supplies, and meals. Humanitarian heart meets world traveler — though he jokes that Mexican hotdogs could use a little Canadian upgrade.
Marg
Marg enjoyed a perfect Thanksgiving weekend — dinner Saturday, freedom Sunday and Monday. She spent the holiday amid pumpkins and dogs on Westham Island, soaking up sunshine and nostalgia. This week, she’s diving into Richmond’s local history at the archives — a bargain at ten bucks a year and packed with fascinating stories.
Kal
Kal’s been flying solo at home while Lavina’s away, consoled only by Blue Jays-blue attire and dinners at Dalbir’s. Thankfully, Lavina’s coming home soon — and Thursday football is off the agenda.
Debbie M.
Debbie’s Thanksgiving was all about family and her granddaughter Amaya’s new baby cousin, Eleanor. Amaya was eager to share — right up until Eleanor touched her beloved bunny. Sharing lesson: complete! Later, Debbie and Miles escaped to Kelowna for crisp, sunny fall days — a picture-perfect weekend.
Judy
Judy’s finally fan-free after a flood cleanup marathon — the silence in her condo feels almost eerie. She’s hosting grandson Jack’s early 6th birthday this weekend (per his request: hotdogs only) before heading off to Mexico for some R&R. In between, she’s throwing another party for Chris, because why not keep the celebration streak going?
Blair
Blair’s week was packed with birthdays — one grandson, one granddaughter — and a dinner at Dalbir’s that was apparently “gruelling” (so much self-service!). Despite the “hardship,” spirits were high. He also led an impromptu vote on surgical eligibility, proving once again that democracy is alive and well in Rotary.
Chris M.
Chris has officially moved into her new house next door and is adjusting to life with a vintage 1950s bathroom (no outlet for her toothbrush, but plenty of character). Her cat, less enthused, expressed protest through two bouts of nocturnal diarrhea — proving that moving stress affects all species. Between caregiving for an ailing cousin, discovering temperature extremes in the new house, and a Peking duck lunch conflict, she’s still smiling — mostly.
Garth (again)
Garth sympathized with Chris’s feline woes — his own cat also treats travel as a chance to redecorate the car with strategic vomiting.
Debbie S.
Debbie’s daughter has traded Whistler for Ladysmith, now working for Seaair floatplanes (and scoring Mom free standby flights!). She starts her Bridge Watchman course in January — same certification as her brother in the Port of Vancouver — and might finally be ready to put down roots. Debbie’s Thanksgiving featured two dinners, one on the Island and one in Ladner, so gratitude and gravy were both in abundance.
President Debbie
President Debbie enjoyed Thanksgiving with her son, his partner, and their very “hands-on” toddler. She’s learning the delicate art of grandparenting (“No carrots! No coloring books!”) while keeping up with her own household zoo — kittens, chaos, and all. Her son and daughter-in-law are off to Dallas for hockey and football, leaving her with the house — and a much-needed nap.
