Pat spent the last week in Palm Spring where it was sunny everyday and in the low 100s. She was sorry to have missed Trevor’s presentation last week.
Dalbir took a friend to Lyndon by the Birch Bay road and the friend decided he will buy a farm there.
Bob did the grouse grind in 1 hour and 6 minutes, a new record. Daughter Zara said she did half the grind. She went a quarter of the way up and a quarter of the way done – two quarters make a half.
Dick who felt lucky not to be in Maritimes or Florida with all the flooding and instead was in calm and peaceful Richmond.
Susan was working the 7 AM shift last week and missed the meeting but started later today and happy to see us – and us her. Ryan not dropped out of SFU yet. Apparently life is moderately okay.
Sam reminded us that as of Thursday he was not yet 30 and only 2 when Dick joined Rotary. He thanked Debbie for the champagne gift. But his favourite birthday gift was a dog that poops blood. Fortunately, Moose is back to lazy and stupid. He is having a party party where everyone dresses for a different kind of party. Christmas or Pajama, e.g.
Chris B arrived at the Ballroom at 6:11, I believe AM, unless she spent the night because she wanted to greet John Irving our speaker and not miss his arrival. Chris B. has been busy with the election and was at the Continental for the fourth night. She went to a fundraiser and accepted a thank you on Malcolm’s behalf. She starts teaching on Monday for 7 weeks in elementary schools.
Judy deserves the Order of Canada for looking after Chris B. 🥇 Judy had a little quieter week as the whole family has a cold. She is still coming down from the (succulent) high of the mini cruise and will spend a quiet weekend at Birch Bay.
Peter’s granddaughter played soccer this weekend first half in goal for a shut out and played forward in the second half and scored a goal for the first time. She is mentoring 5 year olds in soccer and complains “they do not listen.” This from a 12 year old.
Kal does not listen and welcomes guests.
Gordon wished Sam a Happy Bidet. Gordon had a quiet week so he joined the naughty table and confirmed it is just as naughty as its reputation. Some say it is just the LOUD TABLE. Can’t disagree with that.
Bill has close friends who live in St Petersburg. The hurricane eye will not hit them but they posted photos on face book that show the Tampa Bay was actually empty of water as the water first rushed out with the storm.
Elena continued with birthday celebrations for her sister who is so active. Ralph Towsley passed away recently at 95 who helped organize RWHN. The very first container was shipped to the Ukraine. RWHN has grown to many clubs in district 5040 and 5050. Ralph was 95 and attended every container loading.
Peachy was with Larry during his sad moments and she was overwhelmed with Rotary family support. She was screening job applicants this week for home support workers and found one who was qualified.
Danny had a quiet and peaceful week staying at home and edited 2,000 photos he took on his trip. In case you forgot here are the places he visited. 1. United Arab Emirates- cities Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah 2 .Israel cities north -Accho, Haifa, Nazareth , Sea of Galilee, east and west side- Jerusalem and Bethlehem South - Dead Sea and Masada and Jaffa 3. Jordan - Petra , wadi rum. 4. Philippines. He will be leaving for Mexico next week for 10 days. Perhaps on business.
Max had his first soccer game and his team won 7 – 0. He was at Gavin (?) lake two weeks ago for in bound orientation but it was a long drive for a weekend.
Garth is working as he starts a 4 week trial Monday. But tomorrow is a day off for golf with family and dinner with his partners.
Micheal noticed that Max’s English has really improved. Micheal’s German has not. Happy Birthday to Sam and Micheal was only 7 when Dick joined Rotary. Off across the border again this weekend.
My dog continues to improve. I cheered up the room with the story of Five days at Memorial about a hospital in New Orleans during Katrina that had to make tough decisions when there was no food water or power left. Oh, and we have sold our townhouse. Not Garthing with golf today as he has to work. But in late breaking news I had my best round of the year – shot an 84.
Debbie coached her son’s soccer team of 4 – 5 year olds when her son was that age. One player was running the wrong way so she yelled at him to turn the ball around. So he picked up the ball and turned it around. The process of learning goes both ways. She watched and recommended the series National Parks by Barack Obama which had been recommended by Micheal. Surprised it was not about narcos.
Sandra went to Brittany’s and worked on her planters all day. The two of them enjoyed the plant store but had to fit everything they bought into the car. Which it did but only because they did not find a dog wood tree.
Bobby had a great week shopping in the mall in the US – did not buy a jacket. Had a family dinner downtown. He painted the outside of his house from brown to grey by himself - he signed the cheque. Thanked Debbie S. for his plants which amazingly are still alive.
Melinda went across the border for her brother in laws funeral and got to drive with one eyed John in the passenger’s seat. John was also in the back seat driving. In downtown Spokane they went in circles and ended up in the wrong spot. He said he can’t see everything but insisted on being the navigator. It was a beautiful drive though. This week decided to put in a heat pump so they are warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Grand kids have also been at the house.
Dick can relate to one eyed driver story but keeps his mouth shut – Barb is grateful.
