The Board has decided not to have in person meetings until the earliest September. Also a Small Venue Committee has been formed to consider a venue for our in person meetings that have capacity to hold hybrid meetings.
Elena is retiring from the Board of Directors of Rotary World Help Network and is asking a member to join as our Club was one of the founding members.

President Pat thanked the outgoing and incoming boards. She reminded us of this Rotary Years logo and motto "Serve to Change Lives." The other catch phrase is "Each one bring one." RI is looking to increase our impact, expand our reach, enhance participation, and increase ability to serve. Pat reminded us that in Rotary we do not do anything alone. Our Club is now a Peace Building Centre with thanks to those who are participating. She reminded those who haven't to submit their criminal records check. Lorne Calder is our new D.G. from Prince George where the District Conference will be held from May 20 - 22 2022. If you want to register go to celebraterotary.ca. Pat's themes for the year are caring, peace, and harmony. She would like to learn more about the Polio Plus program and the current status is only 2 cases of wild polio in only two countries. Our next Gala is Friday May 6, 2022 and the basics are in place for the event next year. Pat looks forward to the clubs support and is always open for comments and discussion.

Dr. William Osei who has moved from Prince George to Richmond and is looking to join a Rotary Club here. He was a Public Health Doctor in Prince George and first joined Rotary in 1987 in Botswana. He is retired so we do not have to address him as Doctor and our William would be grateful for another one. Actually William is my middle name. (Not JK)

Elena is just back from camping at Manning Park with 10 friends not seen since March 2020.
Gordon welcomed our guest and enjoyed the maskless outside but mourned the perished roses with the heat but fall is on it's way.
Marg got to see and reconnect with cousins with a hot dog BBQ on Canada Day.
Bobby's veggie garden is out of control perhaps need weeding or maybe we will all get zucchini next dinner box from the banquet hall. Went out for a family dinner. Was reminded by a bride apparently not his, that you better return her call within an hour. Bookings are up and good to be back at work.
Sandra went to Victoria and enjoyed the fabulous scenery on the trip. Had great visits and daughter Brittany and partner Josh have bought a townhouse. Second shot coming up.
Bill visited Gordon to present the Dean Crain Award. Will be Emcee at family wedding. (Google hiking jokes see below - crowd pleasers). Playing in hockey playoffs tonight. Because of the Delta Variant there will be no fans allowed. 😩
Sam is giving a speech at the same wedding where Bill is Emcee. Hung out with friends on Canada day which included a baby and Moose.
Peter's granddaughter turned 10 and got a dirt bike which she rode around the Tulameen. May lead to Easy Rider remake.
Kal told the nice story of a now 70 year old who, as a girl, applied to be a bat boy decades ago and was refused but recently was allowed to be a bat girl at 70.
I can walk and chew gum but not march and play the trombone. "March don't Play"
Judy's Spencer turned 41. Is putting the grand kids through a week of horse camp. One did not want the horse to move on the first day. Lunch with the grand kids at the Cactus Club is now pretty expensive.
Mary Lou had her book club meeting in her back yard. Had family at the cabin sauna while she and Alan stayed in the Camper which has AC. Took her Dad out for dinner for the first time since January 2020. Is also hugging everybody. Get in line!
Melinda welcomed our guest William. One of her employees has family in Lytton. Projects meeting after meeting next Thursday to consider support for Lytton. Her garden is going great, getting second jab and Willow Wednesday is still a delight which now includes Rory.
Susan welcomed our guest congratulated our award winners, other wise had a normal week with son Ryan learning to drive????? Uhhuh. Did you mean norbal?
Carolyn's family travelled to Victoria so having a quiet peaceful week without home and contents in chaos. Despairs for Canada.
Danny travelled to the Okanagan and hiked up bridal falls. Told us about the blue hour where the blue layer of light created before sunset is amazing.

Debbie S. provided good practical advice. When taking a selfie look up and not down. Thanked Mary Lou for the gift certificate for the Eddy Lodge although apparently not air conditioned. Daughter Nick can now bend her knee after injury. Headed to Victoria, two weeks post second shot and is back on the leader board with a 6'4" plank. She's so shy and not competitive at all.
Ron has been doing lots of yard work, garden is in full bloom. He is really enjoying his hanging basket from the fund raiser doing his 10,000 steps a day and four pints of beer. He did not say daily.
Larry welcomed our guest and is looking forward to Pat's year as President. Has a sciatica problem and cannot walk. Hope you are feeling better soon.
Dick agrees that sciatica is no fun. This is the best meeting Pat has held, according to Dick and he first joined Rotary in 1981 and it was a bunch of old guys.
Chris M. enjoys our eclectic diverse club and how everyone brings their different stories to the meetings. Celebrating her fifth day of retirement also enjoying new puppy Moss?(I think) a golden retriever so Chris puppysits while everyone else is at work.
Pat wants to buy a blueberry bush from Kal. She has racoons trying to get into her house by scratching away at the roof. There are now cages set to trap them.
All agreed she did a great job in her first meeting.

Mary Jeannie May Simon OC, OQ: Ningiukadluk; born August 21, 1947)is a Canadian former broadcaster, public servant and diplomat. A fellow with the Arctic Institute of North America, she was a producer and announcer for CBC North, and later entered public service as secretary of the board for the Northern Quebec Inuit Association, playing a key role in the Charlottetown Accord negotiations. Simon was Canada's first Ambassador for Circumpolar Affairs, and was a lead negotiator for the creation of the Arctic Council. She also concurrently served as Chancellor of Trent University and, later, as ambassador to Denmark.
Simon was born to Bob Mardon May and Nancy May (née Angnatuk-Askew). Her father was a non-Inuit manager of the Hudson Bay Company trading post in Kangiqsualujjuaq, while her mother was a local Inuk. She attended Kuujjuaq Federal Day School in Kuujjuaq (formerly Fort Chimo), Fort Carson High School in Colorado, and completed her high school via correspondence in Kuujjuaq. She is the second oldest of eight children (four brothers and three sisters), and has three children of her own (two sons and one daughter).
Originally a producer and announcer for CBC North, she began her career as a public servant by being elected secretary of the board of directors of the Northern Quebec Inuit Association. In 1978, she was elected as vice-president of the Makivik Corporation, later on becoming president, a position she held until 1985. During this period she also became involved with Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, Canada's national Inuit organization.
She took on a variety of roles for the Inuit Circumpolar Conference, first as Executive Council member from 1980-1983, then as president from 1986-1992, and then as Special Envoy from 1992-1994. During this period she assisted in obtaining approval from the Russian government to allow the Inuit of the Chukotka Peninsula to participate.
She also:
- held the position of Canadian Ambassador to Denmark (1999–2002),
- was a member of the Joint Public Advisory Committee of the NAFTA Commission on Environmental Cooperation (1997–2000) and held the chairperson position for the commission from 1997 to 1998,
- was appointed Councilor for the International Council for Conflict Resolution with the Carter Centre in 2001
From November 2004 to February 2005 she assisted with the facilitation and write-up of reports on the "Sectoral Follow-up Sessions" announced by Prime Minister Paul Martin following the April 19, 2004 Canada-Aboriginal Peoples Roundtable on Strengthening the Relationship on Health, Life Long learning, Housing, Economic Opportunities, Negotiations, and Accountability for Results.
From 2004 to 2005 Simon was special advisor to the Labrador Inuit Association on the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement.
Simon has received national recognition for her leadership and innovation in developing strategies for Aboriginal and Northern affairs.
- Officer of the Order of Canada, November 17, 2005;
- Officer of the National Order of Quebec, January 21, 1992;
- Greenland Medal for Meritorious Service (Gold) , July 24, 1992;
- National Aboriginal Achievement Award(1996);
- Gold Medal of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society, October 22, 1998, and;
- Symons Medal November 3, 2009.
