There will be a Walk for Water and a cheque presentation on September 12th at 1:00 P.M. at Garry Point.
The summer social is at Larry's Life Centre at 4 PM August 29th. BYOB cost is yet to be determined. Salad and Dessert to be provided but bring an appie and let Debbie T. know what you are bringing.
The virtual student exchange is going ahead with Brazil. There are currently 4 Canadians and 20 Brazilians. The in person exchange is ramping up for 2022. If you know any 15 - 18 years old who might be interested let them know about the exchange program.
You will have received an email with your membership fee invoice for 2021 - 2022. With it you will also receive a personal account statement that will show how much you should pay. Kal please ignore for six months. Okay 7 months.

The Rotary Club of Richmond is holding their Mid Autumn Festival Charity Dinner Friday September 10th 2021 at the Continental Seafood Restaurant 11700 Cambie Street. Pat has sent an email to you with information and relevant internet links.
The Summer BBQ will be $10 cash per person at the door in a basket. Chris M. has sent a doodle for those who are bringing either a salad an appie or a dessert to let her know what you are bringing. You can review the doodle to see what is already being brought. BYOB at the Life Centre but beer will be provided.
Gordon and Pat attended the Steveston Club to introduce Jeff Goldby and discuss our walk for water.

Bill visited live from Stockholm - at least he looked alive and spoke to us about attending Mya's wedding and a pizza reception. 23 hour flight with a mask is no big deal.
Dalbir was in Tsawwassen Club with Susan last week as part of a peace conversation. Attended a fundraiser in a home where the host lost his life two days later at age 47. A great loss to the community.
Bobby is really busy at work and needs to find a good work/life balance. Went to a family lunch and when he got back home discovered family had gone to Whistler without notice to him. Touche. Bobby needs to be married to his family and only date his business.
Marg went to her in person church service for the first time in a while and was grateful for the mask as no one could tell she was singing off key. Only eating soup at the moment as preparing for an implant.
Peter recommends implants at Kerrisdale Dental Centre. Also fires are making it difficult to get to the cabin as highway 3 was the only way for a time into the interior.
Debbie M. had exiled Miles to Prince George where it was smoky and he had to take a two hour detour to make it home. Is back to enjoying Dragon Boat Racing and has found the perfect way to play golf - Grey Goose pitch and putt. Make a putt have some wine.
Chris M. was on Salt Spring for her birthday with a nice dinner at the Piccolo then went to an event with live music and stayed until dark because they were picking up some chickens. So Chris was dressed to kill but for her birthday but not the chickens. They need some for their coup.
Dick is getting his eyes measured for cataract surgery and is looking forward to the end of the grid lock.
Chris B. had her three grandchildren with two 9 and 10 and a girl 11 who is going on 15 and perhaps 20. Had a great tea last Friday with Judy and the granddaughters at Neverland. On the drive home Malcolm stayed in Jasper.
Ron gave out the call for anyone else who wanted apples and listed the half dozen or so varieties that he grows on his property. There are still a lot of Prima apples. Went looking for the galloping goose trail. Maybe it is near the Grey Goose pitch and putt. They were happy at the food bank to receive the apples picked by Bob and Debbie M.
Melinda enjoyed her Willow Wednesday who is taking swimming lessons and practicing in the pool next door. She catered a weeding and it had been awhile since she had been in a crowd. Her staff BBQ was awesome.
I thought we should require the wearing of masks until after the national anthem so as to improve our performance. Also you can get vaccinated to travel to Hawaii at Care Point Medical on Joyce. Gordon was in an echo chamber but was able to tell us slowly and deliberately that he was having his final zoom call regarding the district by-laws.
Danny tried to attend last week but set his alarm clock for 8:30. Latest hike was up Mount Seymour for the beautiful view.
Debbie T. was training in a gym for the Tour de Cure as the ride to Conquer Cancer is not possible. She is the ribbon girl as she ties a ribbon on her bicycle for those who have passed away. Thought a club event at the theatre would be fun.
Chris P. paused to stop the dog from eating plastic, has been on an air plane, gulf island, Ontario, weddings, Niagara Falls and is also resetting her life. Has been here there and everywhere. Made Jam that may be syrup has a new dog name Rousy named for a female UFC fighter.
Elena is collecting items for flood victims and has plans to go to Vegas.
Garth had visitors and went salmon fishing and successfully.
Bob helped Gavin move and for the most part avoided all arguments until he discovered Gavin had no cold beer in the fridge. Flash the new puppy not quit house trained yet. I am not sure if Bob is demonstrating or instructing.
Pat message to Kal - come and talk to the club about Marijuana species. Must be a negative drug test within 72 hours of delivering talk. Grandson is turning 11 and is scheduled to baby sit the dog.

Melinda our president elect talked to us about guidelines for project approval. Anyone can attend the committee meetings and the committee recommends projects for approval by the board. The project categories are international (25% of budget), long term, pro-active, and responsive. A summary of the criteria is:

Members in Conflict must remove themselves from discussion and vote.
This list generated a lot of discussion and Melinda will take the comments and further input to review and rework the guidelines.
The club will not provide funding for operating expenses, individuals, religions or political parties.
The application should require applicants to be prepared to give back to the club and provide a report on the use and impact of our funds.

However there is a National Peanut Butter Day. Is coming up January 24th 2022.
Why National Peanut Butter Day?
The Aztecs seemed to like to make a paste out of everything from cocoa beans to peanuts. So along with the Incas, Aztecs were also known to make peanut paste as early as 1000 BC. European explorers stumbled upon peanuts in Brazil, in South America, where the peanuts were cultivated up to North Mexico. The explorers took peanuts back home to Spain and then later exported them to Asia and Africa. In the early 1700s, Africans introduced peanuts to North America. In the US, peanuts were initially used as a cocoa substitute, food, or oil. Peanuts were hard to cultivate manually and were considered as food for the poor and were also used as animal feed.
Several people were involved in the making of peanut butter as we know it today. In 1884, Marcus Gilmore Edson from Canada came up with a process of making peanut butter paste by milling roasted peanuts between hot plates. Dr. John Harvey Kellog, the acclaimed food specialist, and cereal-maker made his version of peanut butter in 1895. According to a story, a monkey got into Dr. Kellogg’s lab and dipped his banana in peanut butter. During world war II, peanut butter then came to be known as monkey butter. Dr. Ambrose Straub, a St Louis physician is said to have developed a type of peanut butter as a protein substitute for geriatric patients who found it hard to chew meat.
Well, it took a chemist to bring us the ultimate form of peanut butter that continues to be popular even today. Joseph Rosefield, a chemist, worked on homogenization to keep the peanut oil and solids together. Rosefield then sold the patent to a company that began to sell the Peter Pan peanut butter. Later Rosefield began his own business selling the Skippy brand, catering peanut butter to the military during World War II.
The US is the biggest fan club of peanut butter and peanut candy. Empirical evidence suggests that peanut butter alone generates about 850 million dollars per annum in the US. Its nutritional value and affordability have made peanut butter an unrivaled American nutty sweetheart since its introduction. Peanut butter has come a long way from being regarded as an animal feed to the top-grossing sandwich spread the world has ever known. Besides, doing your tummy a favor by opting for peanut butter sandwiches instead of ham or burgers, you are reducing the carbon footprint, saving water and land. Some schools celebrate the day National Peanut Butter by serving only peanut butter sandwiches and so should you!

Another election and another time to hold our noses and vote. However, no reason to abandon our humour so here goes. Although the first one is more sad than funny. These of course relate mostly to the election south of US.
The year is 2020 and the United States has just elected the first woman, from Alabama , as president.
A few days after the election the president-elect calls her father and says,
'So, Daddy, I assume you will be coming to my inauguration?'
'I don't think so. It's a 16 hour drive, your mother isn't as young as she used to be, and my arthritis is acting up again.'
'Don't worry about it Daddy, I'll send Air Force One to pick you up and take you home. A limousine will pick you up at your door.'
'I don't know. Everybody will be so fancy. What would your mother wear?'
'Oh, Daddy', replies the president-elect, 'I'll make sure she has a wonderful gown custom made by the best designer in Washington .'
'Honey,' Dad complains, 'you know I can't eat those rich foods you and your friends like to eat.'
The President-to-be responds, 'Don't worry Daddy. The entire affair is going to be handled by the best caterer in Washington , I'll ensure your meals are salt free Daddy, I really want you to come.'
So Dad reluctantly agrees, and on January 20, 2021, the first woman from Alabama is being sworn in as President of the United States . In the front row sit the new president's Dad and Mom. Dad leans over to the Supreme Court Justice sitting next to him and whispers, 'You see that woman over there with her hand on the Bible, becoming President of the United States .'
The Justice whispers back, 'Yes I do.'
Daddy says proudly, 'Her brother played football for the University of Alabama .'
How do you tell the difference between a fully vaccinated person and an unvaccinated person if they aren't wearing a mask?
Ask them who won the election.
