SERGEANT At Arms Tidbits

Lawrence Chew (for those of you dear gentle readers who do not know, was once the esteemed editor of this bulletin) and provided notes for this weeks S at A in Klingon. I was only able to interpret the following.

Marg is in training for Wimbledon by watching the qualifying rounds starting at 3:00 AM. At the meeting this morning she would suddenly wake grab Don by the shoulder and yell alternatively "Let" of "That was out!"

Garth would grab Don by the shoulder and suddenly yell "Fore." and then "f&*$" or something similar.

Michael spoke once again at length but it was much more interesting because it was in Punjabi. Unfortunately it did not translate well into Klingon otherwise I am sure you would have enjoyed reading it again.

Sam's recipe this morning worked out very well, apparently this was the 13th try. Everyone's lucky number. At least it wasn't Friday.

Kal thought I had a gall bladder transplant and that's why I lost weight. He has acquired half a dozen gall bladders on the dark web and is going in for surgery next week. Sounds like a load of bile to me.

Melinda, Judy, Mary Lou, Chris M. and Sandra, all had grandchildren stories. All planned to be members for when they could have great grandchildren stories. Who else can hardly wait?

Gordon said something as well but if you think Punjabi doesn't translate well into Klingon, try Scottish!

Bill talked about hockey but once again it was recorded incorrectly, even in Klingon.

Peachy had a very busy week working day and night and then joining Marg to watch tennis. No need for sleep here.

Danny may or may not have been there. Then again he may or may not have been in the middle east, any number of countries in Asia, or possibly even in Canada. We will know when we see the pictures.

Bob and Peter almost had a presidential debate as they had understood there was supposed to be one today. Peter lost because he is not really president yet. An easy mistake to make.

Meanderings

So how many of you have heard of Olympe de Gouges? Well she wrote the "Declaration of the Rights of Women and the Female Citizen" in 1791 during the French revolution. She was a feminist at the time and wrote it in response to the declaration of the rights of man written two years earlier. She was angry that women's rights were not included. She was executed two years later for her troubles.

The Declaration of the Rights of Woman and of the Female Citizen (French: Déclaration des droits de la femme et de la citoyenne), also known as the Declaration of the Rights of Woman, was written on 14 September 1791 by French activist, feminist, and playwright Olympe de Gouges in response to the 1789 Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. By publishing this document on 15 September, de Gouges hoped to expose the failures of the French Revolution in the recognition of gender equality. As a result of her writings (including the Declaration of the Rights of Woman and of the Female Citizen), de Gouges was accused, tried and convicted of treason, resulting in her immediate execution, along with the Girondists.

"Marie Gouze (1748–93) was a self–educated butcher’s daughter from the south of France who, under the name Olympe de Gouges, wrote pamphlets and plays on a variety of issues, including slavery, which she attacked as being founded on greed and blind prejudice. In this pamphlet she provides a declaration of the rights of women to parallel the one for men, thus criticizing the deputies for having forgotten women. She addressed the pamphlet to the Queen, Marie Antoinette, though she also warned the Queen that she must work for the Revolution or risk destroying the monarchy altogether. In her postscript she denounced the customary treatment of women as objects easily abandoned. She appended to the declaration a sample form for a marriage contract that called for communal sharing of property. De Gouges went to the guillotine in 1793, condemned as a counterrevolutionary and denounced as an "unnatural" woman."

A German, an Italian, a Frenchman and an Englishman are having a philosophical debate.

The question arises: What separates man from the animals?

"Technology," says the German. "Other creatures have tools, yet none can match the heights of engineering we have accomplished. It is our industry that separates us from the beasts."

"I disagree," announces the Italian. "It is our food. The creatures of the wild eat, but they do not cook. Humans on the other hand, create amazing dishes and new combination that make eating a most enjoyable experience."

"I say it's art," decides the Frenchman. "No other being can create art. From our earliest days we have painted, and now we sculpt, write and compose as well. The wild animals cannot ever know what it is like to cry over a beautiful piece of art."

All three now look towards the Englishman, expecting his answer. He takes a long sip of tea before answering.
