Debbie S. was coming to us from Whistler, where she apparently dragged John up the mountain. She is also back from Netherlands where she had been celebrating her aunts 90th birthday with 60 friends and a dance band. She toured the Netherlands and tilted at windmills. John Quixote was not mentioned. Maybe he in was in Spain or perhaps stuck up the mountain.
Dick is feeling better from his covid and was coming to us from Richmond. Jennifer Jones' article in the Rotary Magazine is very impressive and she is good for the future of the world.
Debbie T. is also feeling better and was doing well on a 55k bike ride until the group went up a hill and she fell behind. She is getting ready for the tour de cure and is starting the fundraising. She and Drew are going camping at Golden Ears in their infamous trailer which became so as the hitch was too short. She asked us to say a prayer for the trailer and Drew who is suffering from sciatica.
Mary Lou felt good to be back in person and had a great weekend at Brits on the Beach with 250 other cars(oh and their owners). It was an emotional gathering as one long time member who never missed had passed away so his wife and son drove his TR 6. Alan is turning 65 so Mary Lou is taking him to the folk festival and Frankie’s jazz club. Shh its a secret.
Michael finished his latest Netflix series. He also fired up an old 1983 Cadillac after only changing the battery. This Monday going to Cultus Lake park with 60 family members.
Blair who will one day be a member(and did so Friday) made a road trip through Alberta and took the opportunity to visit with grand kids in Red Deer and his Dad.
Larry is off to enjoy Birch Bay.
Marg intended to focus on reconnecting but of the intended victims, one is off to Africa, another to Holland and the third is just leaving on a rail cruise through Europe. So, she and Don visited each other in the back yard. Sadly, had another younger friend pass away. Thanks Marg, for all the left over jam.
Judy attended with a frilly curly summer peachy look – very cute. She spent 4 days in Birch Bay and enjoyed drinks and dinner with Larry. The grand kids are all in camp except Liam who is 13. She spent time one on one with him and learning to play exploding kittens - she earned the silver medal.🥈
Debbie M. is recovering slowly from her bike accident. She now has to take 9 courses each year to keep her licence and many of the courses are full days. She finished the last big course yesterday and ate donuts that Miles bought for her, to celebrate – surprisingly they were his favourite flavours. Did they look like this🍩 ? Debbie took her granddaughter to a water park who enjoyed watching the other kids play in the water.
Dalbir was in Florida with white sandy beaches and millions of people for the fourth of July celebration and three days of fire works. He drove his 1981 corvette to the meeting that consumes 3 litres while going around the block.
Chris B. this week taught 8 hours for 6 days and only 5 days next week. Then it is over for the summer and Miles will bring her his favorite donuts. The donuts will look like this 🍩! When she spends one on one time with her grandson, he wants to invite Judy. Celebrating her 45th anniversary and she and Malcolm went to Loupe(?) which was very nice. Grand kids are coming July 30th.
Gordon had an interesting week including lunch with Kal, President Melinda and Bobby discussing and briefing Kal on international projects. Gordon commented on the British Rolls Royce that if on broke down, Rolls Royce had their own trailer that covered the vehicle so no one would know a Rolls had actually broken down. Gordon’s alarm went off and as he rolled over to switch it off, he rolled right out of bed. He seemed fine so “No harm no foul.”
Danny just back from Saskatchewan where he drove for 5 hours from Saskatoon to south east corner to the bad lands and explored the secret caves in Castle Butte. He hiked 230 feet up and encountered a rattle snake. He explored the caves where rustlers would hide stolen cattle from ranchers in Montana and then sell them back to other Montana ranchers. He also travelled through Moose Jaw (Where Al Capone hid his whiskey) and Regina. Danny had fantastic views of mustard and canola fields. Went on a hike with the Nature Saskatoon Society on a swamp to find a specific plant and orchid and encountered a lot of mosquitos. We want to see the photos.
Pat reported that when Jennifer Jones first came through on their tour some of them got covid and had to isolate. Pat is away to Palm Springs as it is not hot enough here. She golfed two days in a row and yesterday also played tennis. She is so tired it was hard to get out of bed. We knew she could make it.
Garth had family visit from Quebec with a fabulous scotch that led to a fabulous headache. Family is here until August 3rd. Attended a celebration of life and saw a bunch of teachers he had not seen in years. Chor Leone had a Christmas photo shoot in a tux and timed exposures taken with a lighting wand that makes them look like angels(un-hun).
Carolyn said the kids have gone to Victoria and now the house is quiet for a cup of coffee. The Club books are now with Bobbi who will now be nagging Kal. Is a dinning member at the club and had a round with a birdie and three pars. She calls that progressing slowly(un-hun). Don't press the bets.
Bob said that grands kids and grand parents have a tight bond because they both have a common enemy. He hiked up some mountain(?) in the US and took the gondola down. Stopped to look at cars at a car show and the national anthem was played, everyone was put on autopause. Reported that one of two 1947 Ferraris sold for $147,000,000.
Sandra’s cousin has a 5 year old who first refused to stay over night and then changed her mind. The five year old spent 5 hours swimming rode a bike help make jam and played Lego. She slept through the night. Brian reports that Sandra took all of Sunday to recover. Sandra and Brian are off to the travel clinic for shots as they are heading to Cape Town for the wedding in a couple weeks.
Brian had one on one time with their daughter and took her to see Princess Bride at the VSO. It was excellent and well worth it.
I was paused for Autosave by my 5 year old twin grandchildren during a make believe game of Mine Craft. Thankyou Christine M. for writing the bulletin for the last two weeks.
Bobby is in a quiet house with his wife in Toronto and the kids at Whistler. Wants us to be patient as he learns to be treasurer(Kal will). He learned from the meetings that Melinda drinks a lot of coffee.
Melinda admits she is a coffeaholic. Had a great weekend visiting family in the US she hasn’t seen in over three years. They finally brought John’s 68 Camaro home although it stalled 10 blocks from home. Called BCAA for a jump. Safety tip regarding Nexus – apply before yours expires, there are no local appointments and long waits. John needs surgery for melanoma again and will have more of his eyelid removed and referred to cancer clinic and a different specialist.
