1) Mute your microphone if you aren't already muted. Background noise is distracting.
2) If you are not engaged in the presentation, turn off your camera.
3) Chat function should only be used to address the speaker, not for Club member remarks during the presentation
4) Unmute when harassing the Sergeant at Arms or taking your turn during Sergeant at Arms.
5) Remember Lupa Lupa

Please direct any questions or concerns to the President or a board member of your choosing and the board will discuss any and all questions or concerns during a board meeting. Also please refer to the members committee anyone who may be interested in attending a meeting or joining the club.

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND

CLUB BUSINESS

The Rotary Club of Richmond Fireside will be May 21, at 6 PM. You guessed it at the Palace. No not that one. The one kitty corner from the Ballroom. Yes that's it - where the Gala is held.

The Steveston Club is celebrating something. Maybe that it was started by Bill McNulty. Or if you wanted to, you could just go to their website and find out. Rotary Club of Steveston – Service Above Self. Actually it's not there so you will have to wait until Debbie T. sends out an email or reminds us all next week.

Nominations are still open for external and internal Paul Harris awards. Send them to Blair or whoever is standing in at the moment.

Grauer Breakfast this Tuesday. You get a free pancake or two if you come and volunteer.

On May 2, 1967, the Toronto Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup, beating Montreal Canadiens 4 games to 2. I remember being upset about it. Terry Sawchuk and Johnny Bower stoned the Canadiens. Johnny Bower was 42 and Allen Stanley 41.

Rumour has it we did really well on the Gala. You will have to wait on the official numbers from Bobby. But

Silent $17,000

Live $13,400

Golden Ticket $10,000

50/50 $2,000

Balloon $3,000?

Wine Wall $3,000?

Tickets $53,400 Gross

Ask $25,000 - $30,000

If accurate, with a smaller crowd, more expensive silent items, and fewer live, we likely will net around $65,000 +/-.

Remember you heard it hear first folks. Subscribe to the Bulletin and get up to the latest minutia and other totally useless information.

Speaker

With the Fireman's Golf tournament coming at the end of this month we had Kal Mahal - my wife's favorite Rotarian talk to us about the dangers of not driving the golf cart carefully. Kal has taken several courses on golf cart safety and wanted to share both his experience and what he has learned. Take it away Kal.

Golf cart accidents are increasingly common, causing thousands of injuries and hundreds of fatalities annually, with children and seniors at highest risk.

Prevalence and Statistics

Common Causes

Several factors contribute to golf cart accidents:

Types of Injuries

Golf cart accidents can result in a wide range of injuries:

Legal and Safety Considerations

Prevention Tips

  • Always wear seatbelts if available and avoid overloading.
  • Drive at safe speeds and avoid sharp turns or rough terrain.
  • Supervise children and restrict their access to golf carts.
  • Follow local regulations regarding road use and safety equipment.
  • Avoid driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Golf carts, while convenient, pose significant risks when safety measures are ignored. Awareness of these risks and adherence to safety practices can reduce injuries and fatalities.
