Maryam will be sending out dates for awarding scholarships at the high schools. She will be looking for volunteers to attend to hand out the scholarships.

On May 9th Rotary world help is sending a container load to Ukraine.

On June 11th there will be no Thursday morning meeting as the president's dinner will be that evening at the Palace.

The Rotary Club of Richmond Fireside will be May 21, at 6 PM. You guessed it at the Palace. No not that one. The one kitty corner from the Ballroom. Yes that's it - where the Gala is held.

The Steveston Club is celebrating something. Maybe that it was started by Bill McNulty. Or if you wanted to, you could just go to their website and find out. Rotary Club of Steveston – Service Above Self. Actually it's not there so you will have to wait until Debbie T. sends out an email or reminds us all next week.

Nominations are still open for external and internal Paul Harris awards. Send them to Blair or whoever is standing in at the moment.

Grauer Breakfast this Tuesday. You get a free pancake or two if you come and volunteer.

On May 2, 1967, the Toronto Maple Leafs won the Stanley Cup, beating Montreal Canadiens 4 games to 2. I remember being upset about it. Terry Sawchuk and Johnny Bower stoned the Canadiens. Johnny Bower was 42 and Allen Stanley 41.

With the Fireman's Golf tournament coming at the end of this month we had Kal Mahal - my wife's favorite Rotarian talk to us about the dangers of not driving the golf cart carefully. Kal has taken several courses on golf cart safety and wanted to share both his experience and what he has learned. Take it away Kal.

Golf cart accidents are increasingly common, causing thousands of injuries and hundreds of fatalities annually, with children and seniors at highest risk.

Prevalence and Statistics

Golf cart accidents have risen significantly as these vehicles are used beyond golf courses, including residential communities, college campuses, and retirement areas. Annually, approximately 26,000 injuries occur in the U.S., with around 600 fatalities reported each year. Children account for nearly one-third of injuries, and 60% of injured children suffer traumatic brain injuries, a rate three times higher than adults. Older adults also face increased risk, with injury rates in retirement communities rising by 67.6% over a decade.

SERGEANT At Arms Tidbits

Judy's floor has finally been laid and her furniture is coming back. Yippee. The crowd went wild.

Debbie T. saw a mountain goat while in Hawaii but not one turtle. (They are there, saw many on my last trip.)

Brian told us about how he ran into his favorite liquor branch sales person several times while trying to tell us he had a dry April. Clandestine meeting at the RCMP Station, I think in Surrey. The other a surreptitious exchange of booze while jogging. At least he has taken the first step and admitted he has a problem. (Help me Rhonda Yeah).

Susan's mom is doing well and thanked the club for all the well wishes. Also has been together with Glenn for 40 years.

Bill won the award for best dressed Rotarian on Gala eve day.

All those with grandchildren told such sickeningly cute stories about their grandchildren that the Club passed a special resolution that there will be no more grandchildren stories for the rest of the Rotary Year. For those of you not in the know that means until June 30, 2026.

Gordon told us about the time he met Michelangelo in person and could not believe that the old guy, Michael, not Gordon, spoke Italian with a Scottish Brogue. Who would have guessed it. Those Celts were everywhere for centuries.

Others talked about the word games they play, streaming series they watched, trips they have been on, and/or restaurants they went to. If it was worth repeating I would have done so but know that all of you were listening carefully. Or were you????!!!!
