Chris P. has made time in her life for her dad, who has leukemia and has been spending lots of time with him including driving him to appointments. His cancer is vocational, from being a firefighter. Chris is thankful he is recognizing his limits and allowing family to help him.
Carolyn went through a similar journey with her dad and empathizes with Chris P. Her own family, big and small, has been sick, with flu or whatever. Her daughter who has been traveling, decided to test for Covid and found out she was positive, which explains the cycles of sicknesses.
Debbie T. had Curtis’ car in a parade, and they are looking for future events for it. At one point it refused to go into reverse and kept going forward (symbolic)? It’s fixed now. She brought the QR code for the petition and advertising campaign to raise awareness of the need to support young men to be safe and not to use alone. There is a golf tournament being organized for Curtis and details will be forthcoming. Drew is in the hospital since Friday, with elevated heart rate and blood pressure, but they haven’t yet found out what it is, possibly a bacterial infection. We are thinking of him and sending our prayers and warm thoughts. On the brighter side, in the hospital was an older Scottish gentleman, who, it turns out, wore the kilt in Don Messer’s Jubilee. The parade in Coquitlam was a rotary parade and maybe we should think about doing a parade. Steveston rotary used to do one on Christmas Eve.
Jeannette is hoping for changes in drug policies and hoping that we find Drew’s solution. She explained the continuing saga about the dog needing adopting, couldn’t get in touch with someone in Facebook, so is still working on getting the French bulldog from the Philippines, but there is much money and paperwork involved. Her ICBC case is finally closed and settled fairly, after six years.
Micheal is honoured to sit at the VIP table today and has had a busy week, with parties. At the Tuesday night event, a man collapsed, and they called 911, and the ambulance came in 5 minutes, medical people in the room jumped in and took care of him. The man was fine, and he will be ok. At Costco, Micheal bought 2 umbrellas and left them in his car. On a rainy morning, he was stopped at a flashing light, and saw a young guy at the light, with no jacket. Micheal was waiting for him to hit the pedestrian light so Micheal could cross, and he waited a long time, finally got out and gave him one of the brand-new umbrellas and asked him to press the button next time, to which the guy replied he had been thinking about it, to which Micheal replied “just do it.” Big smiles all around. Bobby is still in Palm Springs. Micheal is just finishing his new home and will be moved in hopefully by July 1st. Thinking of Whistler this weekend as it’s booked ahead, one week every month. There is a lot of family feuding about dates.
Amanda has changed plans for her anniversary to going to Whistler and the Scandinave Spa on Saturday morning and is disappointed they had to cancel Burdock and Co. (but they’ll go in August). Sunday she is going to Vancouver Island, along with her sister and brother-in-law, to ring the cowbell for her dad who is competing in the Iron Man. After the gala, she was sick and her Covid test was positive! She is excited to volunteer in the golf tournament next week.
Chris M. spent last week at the cabin on Hihium Lake (past Kamloops, past Cache Creek, past Savona, and past Loon Lake), off the grid and did lots of work painting the new ex-washhouse and current spa! There are years of buildings at the cabin as Rod loves to build and is working at home on Eleanor’s “treehouse.” They just received a baby gift for Eleanor from Max and his family – a musical plush toy and a monogrammed bath towel. Max says the family will likely be here next summer (after this one).
Garth is grateful to not go through protracted illnesses. However, they got Covid in the hospital and Jean was sick. Food ordered from Timmy’s Kitchen, was the worst - but taste-loss is a Covid symptom, so maybe … Garth had a good, and seemingly justified, rant about the government changing regulatory bodies. He was sitting with a psychologist at a conference, who informed him about the rolling together of 7 professions into one body, so psychologists are now with physiotherapists, and complaints would be decided by a physiotherapist, the chairperson of the body. Apparently 17 professions have been rolled into 2 bodies, including a recent decision to lump lawyers, notaries and paralegals together. This was passed last week without discussion. A lawsuit has already been filed by the Law Society, as lawyers would be less than half of the regulatory body, thus losing their independence. He has always believed that lawyers and journalists are the basis of democracy, so this hits hard. Apparently, no other professions have challenged the change, and in a few months, there could be no more Law Society.
John is thinking of the Winston Churchill quote, “When you’re going through hell, keep going”. He hasn’t had any symptoms with Covid, even though Sandy had it, John had nothing. He might even have it right now! His daughter with the YouTube video has 1500 subscribers and her video has about 75 000 views and she has made $200. It is possible to have millions of views. He is back from the Okanagan, where there is a boil water advisory, but with his filter, they don’t need to do that and won’t have diarrhea.
Gord feels sorry for those with illnesses, but his cancer seems to be frightening all the other illnesses away. He’s finding it hard to go from one season to the other in a few days, cold wind, sun, warmth and can’t keep up with the changes. He’s thinking about those with health issues themselves, or in their family. He remembers when his father was ill in Glasgow, and he got the phone call to get on the plane, feeling guilty about being so far away. There was a quick comment about having coffee with a chick?
Bob isn’t counting the days at all. Gavin was in Oregon with friends golfing for 3 days, and came back on Sunday, with tales of Lincoln City. They had dinner at restaurant then went to Meg’s bar in the middle of nowhere, walked in, saw all the skin headed white people, (they weren’t all white skin heads) thought they might play pool, but then saw the skinhead with “f*** around and find out” tank top. They drank their beers quickly and were home by 10. Zahra has only been eating noodles for the last 10 years but is finally listening to Bob and has a trainer tracking her calories and macros and working out. She even asked for advice before she went out for dinner - spicy tuna roll and sashimi salmon. It’s good she’s thinking about nutrition now. Their temporary tenants moved out from the condo downtown, and left the condo the cleanest it's ever been, nothing to do! They might come back as they loved Vancouver and Bob is thinking about keeping the unit waiting for them until September
