Garth: Went to a golf resort in Courtney and to Whistler where he experienced bad weather but this gave him an opportunity to paint the cabin.
John: Sandy and I both tested positive for hearing aids. However I have asynchronous hearing loss which means we need to find out why before I should get hearing aids. Sandy has her hearing aids so does not speak as loud as she did before. So I can’t hear what she is saying but unfortunately she can hear my mumbles.
Debbie S. went to an Indian wedding that was so much fun. Daughter Nicole who was in the wedding party was busy for five days straight. There was a brides party with dancing which did not stop while you could serve yourself food at the buffet. The wedding was Thursday morning with breakfast and then lunch. The bride was in a beautiful outfit. She then went to whistler for the weekend. Next off to Seattle on a gala auction item to see a blue jay’s game.
Dalbir went to the Steveston Canada parade. The salmon was great. Lawrence Bourke had no patience for the lineup. He saw Sandra with Miller who was doing great.
Marg also went to the parade and saw people she knew. Marg was recognized by one of the mothers of former students and was impressed that Marg remembered the children. Marg is sorry the firefighters can no longer spray water and she was the cheering section for Sunrise Rotary part of the parade. She has been watching tennis and making jam. The Saw Ring of Fire and although not a Johnny Cash fan thought is was well done.
Sandra expressed her pride that Brian’s mom helped start the parade in the 1940s to raise funds for a children’s playground. She was impressed how packed the parade route was this year. No need to mention Miller thanks to Dalbir.
Judy remembers watching the parade going down three road and then packing everything up to Steveston for another parade. She had a nice weekend in Birch Bay. Her baby just turned 44 and when she was overdue with him at a party when a water fight started. She got wet and was chasing the perpetrator with a water bucket at 9 months pregnant. Spencer had a July 1 party that turned into a sickness spreading event. Took grandson to the water park and he loved the cold water. After the interlude she told of us of a text exchange with someone being friendly in Houston that the club consensus that it was sadly likely a scam.
Debbie M. looking after Amalia went to the lobby and left Miles to look after her. Debbie while trying to be quiet tucked her dress and toilet paper into her underwear. Fortunately, she discovered it in the lobby of her building. Although no one had a close look this morning. Has been exhausted looking after granddaughter but it has been a lot of fun. The Dragon Boat festival was excellent with a breast cancer race and ceremony. She took Amalia to her first Canadians game, and she cheered everybody, so did Amalia.
Kal is happy he does not wear a dress. His Mother could not remember the twins name so called them Rondy. He and Dalbir had a weekend lunch with their seniors. The 80-year-old takes 4 hours to get ready. Chewy (Lawrence Chew previous bulletin editor) would make up the bulletin. How dishonourable!!!
Melinda followed someone with toilet paper trailing from behind at a baseball game apparently saving it for later. Wednesday, they picked up the kids from day care and dealt with the pandemonium. John says he is going out to do the yard leaving pandemonium with Melinda. Willow spent the night and went to Boston Pizza for the cotton candy drink.
Elena had fun on Canada day. Arrived at 7:30 AM for a parade start at 11. Apparently they were following the wrong red truck but soon found the RI truck. She is enjoying her garden with lots of apples and will be making apple sauce.
Larrry enjoyed his days at birch bay and Steve has decided he likes to go. He enjoys having people dropping in all the time. Saw Judy and Chris. Will be going to Lions Gate for another surgery next week.
Gordon looking forward to summer. He congratulated our new president. Gordon has seen all kinds of presidents but never saw one bring his own sofa. Great to see us back in the Canada parade. Good to see Lawrence again.
Jeanette welcomed our guest Pam. Jeanette’s dog was at the vet for two days on steroids and antibiotics for $2,500 and doing okay again. Hopefully the dog is just adjusting. Jeanette was dressed all in red for Canada Day and she saw a member from Mountainview who was cheering them on. Next time she would like a megaphone.
Danny is just back from Kelowna where he attended the Canadian Photographers conference with photographers from all over. They did a hiking trip to take nature photos. It was a 6 k hike with four bridges and thick forest. In the middle of the hike, it started to rain and he had a rain coat for his camera. He got wet but the camera was okay. Phew!
Susan was reminded of her mom who took photographs from a camera she had won in a photo contest. Thanks to everyone who helped with parade. Their application to the parade was late so they did not expect to be accepted but were and so Pam our guest, called for help. The Steveston club was busy with their pancake breakfast. Susan would like the Richmond clubs to work together with the Steveston club on the parade. All we need is the RI banner rather than only the club banner to show we are all Rotarians. She won tickets to white caps game where they won and an added bonus, it was indigenous night.
Pam happy to be invited to our club and she helped organize the Canada Parade. She came to Canada in 2003 and has been living in Richmond. While walking in the parade a little girl with Canada flags recognized the Rotary flag and came up and thanked Pam for feeding her pancakes in the morning. Pam was moved by this and would like to belong to our club. You would be welcomed with open arms.
Carolyn has been in pandemonium with the kids but getting bundled up and going to Victoria. Enjoyed the parade. She seemed awful quiet, and I do not have my hearing aids yet.
Sandra was in Kelowna last week. She enjoyed Canada Day with the family and special with Miller. Kids love it. Left early because of the number of people. A lot of the fruit trees and vines are dead or suffering from the cold snap last winter.
Amanda brought Graham down to Steveston to see the Grand Prix of Art. They do not take their phones when out together. They searched all of Steveston and did not find the Grand Prix. They should have looked at the calendar! So they went for drinks instead. She is now into two months of clean eating and no drinking. 100 days was too much.
Lawrence happy to be back and two weeks in a row. He had forgoten about trying to think of something to say. So it is the end of school and his son was frustrated. When asked why his son had high expectations of what summer was going to be like. But definitely not 60 days of sitting at home. He is signed up some summer camps and the family has created a 2024 summer to do list. But the trampoline park is at the bottom of the list.
Pat was in Palm Springs where it was very hot. Congrats to Peter 🤣. Pat fell playing tennis and hurt her right shoulder. She is on the disabled list and will be going for an Xray. Thanks to Marg for bringing jams.
Bobby was in Toronto for a week to visit his daughter and she had a too do list for him which included Costco and Canadian tire but no trampoline. Traffic is really bad in TO. He went to his first Blue Jays game. Did not go to any restaurant recommended by Dalbit and went for $11 Tacos instead and sat outside where it poured rain. Did go to a Black and Blue where the drinks were $22 so went to the pub across the street for $6 a drink. What me cheap? His daughter finished a ten kilometer run and will run a half marathon. Bobby will watch. His garden is doing well. They hosted a wedding reception and had trouble finding salmon so ended up having to buy it at Costco. Claims Michael did not come this morning because of work. Or was he at Cultus?
Peter’s granddaughter played soccer at a tournament on the weekend and won all five games some by 8 and 9 goals. The teams were from the lower mainland and Washington state. He couldn’t be prouder. He used to give his Mexican workers bicycles to go grocery shop. He decided he would buy them a car and let them have the keys. His son put a tracking device on the vehicle and found out they were buying beer then going to the beach. They would then drive back to the farm. Consulate requires that they not drink while on the job and they run the risk of losing their work visas. Now they have to ask for the key to the car. Peter is disappointed that he unfortunately has to treat adults as if they were children (Well teenagers maybe). The theme for this Rotary year is “The Magic is Rotary” and what we do is for the good of the community. He is looking forward to the being our president this year. 🤣
