Oh Canada with English Subtitles for those of us you sometimes forget the words.
Do not be embarrassed by your failures but learn from them and start again. On the other hand there does not seem to be a limit to the number of times you can make the same mistake twice.
The summer social is at Larry's Life Centre at 4 PM August 29th. BYOB cost is yet to be determined.
The virtual student exchange is going ahead with Brazil. There are currently 4 Canadians and 20 Brazilians. The in person exchange is ramping up for 2022. If you know any 15 - 18 years old who might be interested let them know about the exchange program.
You will be receiving an email with your membership fee invoice for 2021 - 2022. With it you will also receive a personal account statement that will show how much you should pay. Kal please ignore for six months.

sergeant At Arms Tidbits
Bobby was none and done. Although he congratulated all the Olympic Athletes.
Mary Lou was broadcasting from her office that she had a great 40th wedding anniversary. Daughter Lindsay was home and a nice meal at Cardero's.
Debbie M. went to Vernon with daughter Sami and Manuel which included a visit to ex-husbands. Dalbir and ex-wife would have attended as well but the GPS was not working.
Judy claims she had a quiet week but Grandson Liam turned 12 and went to a park called Wild Play with Zip Lines and walking ropes. Judy took pictures from terra firma. Wrapped phone birthday gift ringing mistaken for an alarm clock, a younger sibling had to tell Liam it was a phone. Either Liam is a farm worker or he gets up early for hockey practice.
Sandra celebrated her 35th wedding anniversary and stayed up way past her bed time to celebrate a nice dinner. Who else in the club has seen midnight lately. Really enjoyed the Van Gogh display.
Marg is busy watching the Olympics(bet she was up for Soccer Gold Friday morning - Go Canada!!) Oh and she is canning too.
Dalbir knows an election is coming because he is being invited to fundraising dinners. No Joe P. this time.
Peter has been to his cabin and not smoky. Off to fishing in the Chilcotin. Grandson turned 12 and his voice has dropped. Grandson's voice not Peter's.
Debbie S. is enjoying the summer, spent a day with her sisties and is off to hike the West Coast Trail next week.
Garth blamed golf for missing last week. or who? Has been at Whistler working on the cabin. His office is subject to over 1,000 cyber attacks every day. Russian random ware attack that managed to avoid the firewall and wreck two desk tops that had to be rebuilt. Warning dozen's a day and do not click on anything.
Chris M. is trying to sell her 1973 MGB as storage lot has been sold. Has listed it but no takers yet. Will try the Old English Car Club. Must be for old Englishpersons.
Gordon had a quiet week and feels like late summer.
I commented on the cheers and tears for the 2021 Women's 8 gold medal and reflected on daughter Darcy silver from now nine years ago. All the Canadian Olympic athletes have earned our pride regardless of where they finished. They are all incredible athletes who have put in a tremendous years of effort and met Olympic qualifications whether they have won a medal or finished 35th.
Ron's plum crop is disappointing which he blames on the birds and bees so no wreck beach and went to country meadows instead. Ron regaled us with a rendition of "Blue Berry Hill" and left the audience wanting more. Also Judy and Ralph's theme song - say no more.
Susan was sitting in her back yard coping with her smoke allergy. Turns out son Ryan does not need further certification and is a qualified life guard.
Dick was disappointed at a recent visit to Starbucks as no Iqbal iPad(2) in attendance. Recommended Five Little Indians as a good read as he had lived across from residential school at one time.
Carolyn took out her second mother a 94 year old, for dinner and hugged her. First hug for the 94 year old since the beginning of Covid. Carolyn failed mint jelly but not mint sauce - needs lesson from Marg. Golfing at Tsawwassen Springs later.
Danny did not go hiking this week but running up hill and down in New Westminster with his wife who is in training.
Micheal has missed a month of meetings as busy at the banquet hall. Apparently not so busy to miss watching more series on Netflix. Drove by fires in the Okanagan and clear when he went by. Donating meals for 35 families at the food bank - no end to the Ghirra's generosity.
Joyce had lots of UBC friends for dinner who demonstrated different levels of comfort with the current levels of covid. With some reluctant to be inside.
Melinda reported that granddaughter Rory turned 1 and although the popping balloons led to some crying for Rory older granddaughter Willow loved it.
Elena is having get together with friends in the back yard. CRA is still chasing her. Accurately treated as bogus.
Bill who has adopted the Christopher Lloyd look from Back to The Future reported that Sam is working rather than joining us. Daughter in Law Kaleb is visiting Mother and sister in Seattle for the first time since Covid and then returning to Vancouver first thing August 9th. Nephew? Jack Potter is having a 38 foot statue unveiled outside the football hall of fame.
Kal enjoyed Marg's great presentation last week. In Revelstoke went to the Windsor Hotel and the locals checked with Ron before they let Dalbir and Kal into the Hotel. Nobody had been there since 1968. Nearly died at Ferguson Point. "What club dues?"
Bob had got his Camaro back, nice dinner at Hass' and Gavin has moved out. One down and one to go!
Pat had a nice restaurant meal with friends. Commented on the Vancouver Sun article on the "Time We Lost." Please send photos of club events to Chris M. and attendance to Sandra.

Dean our ADG thanked us for motivating him to get up earlier than normal. Reminded us of "Each One, Bring One." There will be quarterly training for membership chair by Paul Athley(sp?) who brought 19 new members into his club. PETS is from Feb. 18 - 20, 2022 with decision on in person or not to come. Three clubs are having in person meetings and his club has hybrid meetings at the Continental Hotel.
Elena is willing to train someone to be a director of the Rotary World Help Network by next May. RWHN was established in 1997 with 7 Rotary Clubs and now is made up of 40 clubs. It is entirely a volunteer organization where the volunteers gather sort and repair equipment and supplies in a 40 foot container. Arrangements are made with Rotary Clubs in the destination country. Shipments are gathered from hospitals, health care, educational and community minded organizations. RWHN recycling depot that distributes medical equipment, hospitals supplies, dental equipment, computers, school desks, tables and educational books in 60 different countries. Estimated cost of shipping a 40 foot container to Africa is $13,000, South America $7,500 and Asia $5,500. Gordon brought us up to date on international projects but emphasized that we should focus on community projects. He described the project in progress which is a Story Walk Activity involving 17 stations in a circle with pages placed on posts in a circle containing questions for directed learning. The cost is $3,450 of which we would pay $2,500 if we receive the grant. We are working with Dacoda Literary Solutions and the City. Thanks Marg for arranging for the circuit to be at Minoru/Brighouse. The project will require hands on maintenance and cleaning. A similar project is at the Nature Park. The 21st century education and vocational training in Kenya is on hold but there is $70,000 US ready for disbursement. We are one of 17 Rotary Clubs involved in this project. We have already received a grant for ACTS where $9,000 was donated. We are still involved in KIVA micro credit. The Inherit your Rights program is undergoing a community study that is being spearheaded by the Arusha club. Any international grant applications have to be in by July 31, 2022, so if you have any ideas send them to Melinda.
Our KPU endowment fund established in 1995 has provided 34 scholarships and currently has $51,362.15 in it. The last contribution was in 2007. The criteria has changed from single moms past high school to a mature Richmond resident who has work experience and financial need. The criteria include educational goals and community volunteer service.
Meanderings
Canada has won 501 Olympic Medals since the 1900 Paris Olympics with 137 Gold, 166 Silver, and 198 Bronze, not counting the Tokyo Olympics. Canada has won 318 Summer Olympic Medals and 199 Winter Medals. (don't know why they don't add up but check out Wikipedia Canada at the Olympics - Wikipedia ) Canada's first two Olympians in 1900 were George Orton and believe it or not Ronald Macdonald. Orton won Gold in the 2500 metre steeplechase and a bronze in the 400 metre hurdles. MacDonald finished 7th in the Marathon.
