Speaker
Mrs. Tova Wolinski who is a long-standing Richmond resident. She has worked as a social worker since 2000. She started her career working in Surrey at a treatment program for young offenders who were court ordered to attend treatment.
After getting her master’s degree and working in a variety of programs at Surrey Memorial Hospital, she developed a strong interest in Mental Health and Substance Use with special expertise in Reproductive Mental Health. In 2010, after the birth of her third child she continued her work in Richmond with the Mental Health and Substance Use programs and helped to launch several innovative initiatives that resulted in better outcomes for young people and their families.
In 2024 Tova left her job with Vancouver Coastal Health to work with Heartwood which is a residential program for women experiencing mental health and/or addiction challenges.
Tova loves the outdoors and is an avid hiker, hockey player and triathlete.
Chewy has kids getting older and his wife Hayley has been talking about looking for work again, so if anyone has thoughts, advice, recommendations about re-entering the work force, let Chewy know.
Chris M. has been missing meetings as it was hard to breathe, but with a puffer, things are feeling better. This weekend is Eleanor’s first birthday – that was the fastest year in Chris’ life! Then they’re having a garage sale at Rod’s on Family Day, which, it turns out is mostly a book sale.
Joyce is dejunkifying and perhaps will discover dead bodies, starting with her study, and is finding lots of old business records. (ED: It’s possible Joyce is actually just playing Clue.)
Marg birthday week, lunch at Seasons, loved Superbowl, Ben loves the half time show.
Bobby is in Whistler on zoom, cold there, cancelled snowshoeing as is -15º. Great presentation, reminds us of what we take for granted.
Carolyn was on zoom but left and wanted to thank everyone for something.
Debbie M. had the same virus as Chris M., since December, breathing problems, told us she finished her ethics course, and is no longer a shady realtor as she got 100%, so there, Micheal!
Judy saw Dog Man, walked to International Village Cinema, had book club where they read the book Let Them, wasn’t happy with the super bowl, too lopsided. Went to the bronze gold basketball Invictus games and waved at Harry and Maegan. (ED: Judy is too important to notice if they waved back.)
Chris B. had last week of work, excellent students going to be EAs.
Kal missed Garth, couldn’t phone him for “the incident at the farm.” Dalbir watched Superbowl at Legends, but Dalbir now has the flu. Kal is also looking for a job. (ED: Will let Hayley know – buddy cop movie in the making.)
Bill Shelly is on the couch reading the book before book club. West Jet tickets are secured for the gala, wonderful!
Blair was delayed on plane bound for Edmonton, de-icing needed, so waited on plane for 2 hours, so wasted a day. Was – 32º. Highest was only -24º. (ED: Take THAT Bobby!) Will check the weather before planning a trip next time. (Check note from Dick Wagner if you think that was cold.)
Chris P. was in Whistler for a conference, at the same hotel, so didn’t go out for 3 days (ED: due to cold, not going Grey Gardens). Doing a mortgage for a client, who got their downpayment from reselling Taylor swift tickets! At conference learned that being grateful is also looking at her successes from her daughter’s perspective and pausing to be proud of herself, so it’s a good exercise. Also swearing adds life to your life, so f**! That! (ED: "Swearing adds life to your life, so f**! That!” is the 2026 Rotary Theme.)
Larry was anxious going back to work but is happy there. Lots of mentoring and teaching and will do a couple of university courses to keep his license in mortuary science, and as he gets older, it’s harder to think, but has to do it. And he got 100%, so the mind is still good even though the body isn’t. Got through the Super Bowl with Steve (ED: unfortunately, they’re big Bronco fans) and went to a friend’s house where Larry did all the cooking.
Peachy brought double attendance because she brought Amalga with her to Gilmore breakfast. Started kick boxing workouts. Sunday is going to Whistler.
Micheal settling into the new house, two winter formals this week for McMath and McRoberts. Tuesday the new furniture comes. (ED: Good summary, Christine – it felt longer! #twss #iykyk)
Sandra in 1984 was a nurse at the Shaughnessy building and it was old back then! Super Bowl was great. Looked after Miller on Thursday, went to Gilmore Hill, with Brian too, Miller was giggling then slept so well. Went on Saturday too, Miller sledded on stomach, spinning and giggling, Kyle of course would do that. Good to see the next generation on the Gilmore hill – giggling.
Melinda also cooked for the Super Bowl, John was rooting for the Eagles, but Willow was rooting for Taylor Swift’s boyfriend. (ED: is it all a State Farm Insurnace conspiracy? You decide: https://www.tiktok.com/@mohalanahenahe/video/7469297369473944874) Leaving Monday for South Africa for 2 months, back mid-April. What are other ways we can support the women at Heartwood – fresh pyjamas?
Garth is back after 5 weeks in the desert of perfect weather, only up to 16º one day, cool at night, was in shorts the whole time. Lots of bridge and golf.
Debbie T. knows firsthand about the overdose calls and deaths, too many. Addiction treatment is so important, and sadly a drop in the hat compared to needs. Think about how to help Tova and Heartwood.

She kneed him in the groin, and there wasn't much point continuing the vows after that, so we went home.
I spent a long time looking for the perfect moustache, but it was right under my nose the whole time.
