Speaker

Sachin Latti for Sach-in-motion
Sachin is a retired law enforcement officer who served 18 years with the Canada Border Services Agency and has transformed his life’s mission into advocating for mental health awareness among veterans, first responders, and emergency personnel.
As the founder of the Sach-in-Motion Fund, Sachin has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to making a difference in the lives of those who serve our communities.
An accomplished ultra-marathoner and former body builder, Sachin has completed several remarkable athletic achievements while raising funds for mental health initiatives.
He has already accomplished many marathons and raised over $78,000 for various mental health charities.
In June 2025, Sachin will attempt to make history by doing a 70-day sprint across Canada for mental health. See the YouTube video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjCJhNZSiDU
Sachin wants to galvanize the country around the goal of improving mental health, fighting against divisiveness and loneliness and bringing people together.  He has quit his job to focus on training - will be running for 14 hours every day, then rest and recovery while others take care of social media and driving and food. He wants to raise $1 million, inspired by a 26-year-old friend who raised $300 000 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, running 75 km a day.  Sachin’s story will be told while he is running and he is confident that with support, he can raise the money and support mental health. Sandman hotels have been a supporter, offering accommodation.  He is going to Ottawa this weekend for the Remembrance Day memorial.  Data shows that 44.5% of first responders have mental health, anxiety and depression.  There is a lot of stigma around asking for help and 4 years ago Sachin was so impacted that he had to use his voice and ask for help himself.  There are sponsorship opportunities at different levels, as the event will likely cost $250 000.  Sach-in-Motion can now give tax receipts for those who donate.  So far in the past 3 years he has raised about $75 000 with no community support, all of which will go to mental health locally.  He was inspired by that success to run across Canada and involve the whole country, creating awareness of PTSD during and after service.
Funds will also go to Honour House, (see website at https://www.honourhouse.ca/ ) in New Westminster, a big house offering support to veterans active or not, a home away from home, Honour Ranch in Ashcroft, which has 120 acres with 10 cabins, also a refuge for first responders and veterans.  So, Sachin needs funds to support the run, which will raise awareness of mental health and PTSD and support projects such as Honour House, Honour Ranch, the Legion, etc. See the Instagram account sach.in.motion.  The website is being set up.

SERGEANT At Arms Tidbits

Bill and Sam on zoom had left. 😩

Amanda said Graham helped at the Gilmore breakfast, as they had the week off.  They went to Whistler and golfing where she played her best round ever.🏌🏼‍♂️

Gordon was inspired to see how hobbies can turn into a challenge that helps others.  Mental health is so important.  Sachin should put in a project application.  Gordon noticed that Sachin has the best socks.

Chris M. admires Sachin’s goals; especially as mental health is indeed one of the most challenging ills affecting all of us.  She is starting to plan a trip to Scotland where she will walk 100 km, but over the space of a week – not as challenging for sure.

Joyce was inspired.  She has had a quiet week at home.

Peachy wasn’t here for our Hallowe’en meeting.  Tomorrow is her son’s celebration.  Next week she is going to Toronto and Boston.

Danny had friends visiting last week, a pilot and his wife, who were attending their son’s graduation in a master’s in business administration at SFU and a flying school in Seattle.  They went to Cirque du Soleil.  He is leaving next week for Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, for his collection of larimar gems.  He is also going to St. Martin and Santa Lucia.

Bozhena said thank you for inviting such a powerful speaker today.  She had a Ukrainian friend who ran daily, a good discipline.  She is wishing success for his goal.  Together we can do more.  She had a busy week working then on Sunday she had her first performance with the Ukrainian choir and is proud of that.  She will invite us next time.

Jeannete was at the Pathways dinner on Saturday with dancing.  She is having difficulty with registration for her practice outside RGH for the vaccine clinic, and so far, is volunteering.

Lawrence thanks Sachin.  With mental health, people may not realize what’s wrong.  He threw out his back last week, and you know when it’s a back muscle.

John was at the Gilmore breakfast, and as he put the batter out, his pancakes were all shapes and sizes, terrible.  But Jeanette’s, they were all the same size and shape.  So, if you need a nurse, she’s meticulous.

Elena says John just ‘passed’ the pancakes test.  She says every day she walks in the park at 6 a.m., her goal. She enjoyed the Pathways dinner and the dancing.

Marg broke the record for kids at Hallowe’en.  They bought two boxes of candy and had a total of 3 kids, one of whom was only 11 months old, so they are eating lots of candy.  The Curling Club fundraiser with Vintage Band was a blast and they danced until 1 a.m. with 120 people. She saw the Seahawks game, which had lots of errors including several passes over the head of the receiver.

Judy is thinking of the woman who was recently murdered in the front yard and who was a friend of Spencer’s.  Another friend’s husband died of a heart attack at 48.  Debbie M. wanted us to know that Manuel died Thursday morning, after a long valiant struggle. The service will be held on Wednesday, November 13th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Church - 2028 W. 7th Ave. in Vancouver.

Sandra was at a National Sales meeting this week, and on Monday in the bad weather, the power went out, and everyone was coming to the office, so they had the meeting in her dining room, and she had luckily cleaned up the night before.  The last of the meeting was at Quilchena, and some stayed in the Steveston Waterfront Hotel, which is lovely.

Moe will follow Sachin on Instagram, and hopefully can support him as well.  He wasn’t here last weekend because of a head cold, and an annoying runny nose.  He had the power outage too.  His daughter is back from Victoria this weekend.

Garth recorded their Remembrance Day concert, and it will be posted on YouTube and we can log on.  They are doing a concert for Heroes on Friday, for 1st Nations, the forgotten warriors.

Bobby met Sachin at Kidsplay and thought he was inspirational.  Although Bobby has finished the Toronto half marathon, he is continuing to train and is registered for the Vancouver half marathon. He attended the KPU dinner and the Pathways dinner.  He was sitting with Judy, and they had in common that there were a couple of dishes they weren’t going to try.  Today is the Soccer with Kidsplay at BC place, the world cup soccer event for kids.  He says welcome Lawrence, now an official member, and presented him with his badge.

Debbie T. is wishing Peter well for his surgery.  Her own family has had tragedies with mental health, and she knows how exercise of any kind can pull you out of depression.  She suggests that Sachin submit a project application.  She had an almost-tragedy with Finley, her non-neutered sheepdog, who is always sticking his nose up other butts at dog park, and she sometimes has to rescue him, at her peril.  She thought it was time for him to be neutered, so took him to the vet for the operation, but the dog stopped breathing on the table during the anesthetic, but the vet got him back and he’s ok but will never be neutered.
