Susan was actually on her way to work after taking a week off with back problems. The acupuncture seems to be working.

Peter had his rant about the bureaucratic regulations governing his Mexican workers. They have to be asked each day if they are prepared to work more than 8 hours - which they all do. The local Federal inspector wants a log of the responses. Peter may have to hire an employee just to deal with all the paper work. Dalbir are you looking for something to do after you retire?

Marg was dancing the Scottish Hornpipe to the bagpipes as her grant applications are finished and being sent in tomorrow. Fell for a Gift Card scam and fortunately discovered the scam before it was too late and was able to return the gift cards.

Chris M. took a discretionary day to join us. Her family home next door has been sold and will likely be demolished so no longer the enjoyments of a double lot. 😢 Chris will be retiring June 30th. 😁Congratulations but the school will miss you. 😢

Chris B. is having trouble attracting practicum students because of the uptick in Covid. She did receive 60 applications for EA positions and will carefully screen them to get the most qualified. I think Sophie may have been pushing her off the couch but no injuries yet.

Mary Lou warns that male dogs pee more - (marking the male territory). Holed out a golf shot from 50 yards!!!! yippee!!!!

Sam says he and Justin take vacation days on their birthdays. Tomorrow is Jason's so he is taking Moose for a walk at the Beach. I guess it's not Moose's birthday.

Brian has expensive pickleball paddles and large underwear. If someone offers you Sacs underwear it is not a scam. Turns out the bathroom renovator was grateful. No mention of the d___ shot! At least not in this family bulletin.

Dalbir arrived in Canada 53 years ago on April 16th and normally celebrates with family and friends. We are glad you made it. He will be retiring June 30th and taking a record keeping position with East Richmond Nurseries. He will be presenting a Peace Conference to the Tsawwassen Club next week. Ours is scheduled next month and will involve break out rooms. Dalbir recommends them for large meetings.

Garth has scheduled an indeterminant retirement. Had a conversation with his very old looking neighbour who said and I quote (Garth at least) "Guess we're both getting old."

Melinda says John loves Sacs underwear. He and Willow helped Ann and Heath spread a big pile of dirt for some new grass. Willow had the biggest wheel barrow. Melinda decided to gun her ebike, had to brake immediately and ended up with concrete rash. Apparently the result of over gassing an e-bike. Sounds like an oxymoronic term to me.

Dick's younger brother sadly passed away. The Club expresses it's deepest condolences for your loss.

Gordon made it clear that size "large" when it comes to Sacs underwear is referring to butt size. He was happy for the cool breeze off the ocean in Steveston. Took the District Grant course and learned they will no longer be available for scholarships and that just because you are waving at other club members during a zoom meeting they will not necessarily wave back. "Hi Gordon."

Carolyn has been doing paper work, going for bike rides, and having picnics with granddaughter. Out doors where it reduces clean up.

Kathy was pretending to be "Tin Cup" on many of the holes at Savage Creek and managed to lose an astonishing 15 golf balls in 14 holes. She is also gardening. Hopefully you will unearth some  golf balls.

Larry has not been well and has been checked out at UBC. Is back at work and busy.

Yours truly had his paper on "The Culture of Pickleball" trashed for poor citations. Get my shot on Tuesday.

Elena's daughter in law's mother passed away from covid. Friend hit in the eye with a golf ball and now blind in that eye. Elena has been vaccinated and is gardening in the sunshine to get that vitamin D to stave off covid.

Ron is now woke. Also up to 11,000 steps. Bought ice cream cones for grandchildren for only $8. Used to be 5 cents. Oh that's only 70 years ago.

Kal will order extra small Sacs underwear now that he has lost 113 lbs. Wishes every one a happy Ramadan and Vasakhi. Or did he say Wasabi??? I always get those two mixed up.

Bobby came to Canada in 1974 and we are glad he did. He is retiring from cooking but being promoted to dish pig. (term used for dishwasher in a restaurant). Hint Bobby break a few dishes and you will be out of the kitchen completely.

Pat took a Pathways Club House tour and was impressed. Also, as with any successful Pol, took the opportunity for a photo op.

Debbie M. was waving at Gordon. Had a very impersonal exchange of keys compared to the usual congenial meeting. Other realtor did not even show up. Debbie is taking up golfing. Obviously has not been warned about crows who will steal your food even from a zipped up golf bag. At least they won't attack you. Considers Sacs as vanity underwear. Does that mean it is monogrammed? MT on yours or his?

Joyce is enjoying golfing and hiking in the sun.

Bill arrived in time to express his condolences to Dick for his loss.

Sandra was helping out in shipping because it was so busy. Truck driver delivering 700 lbs of medical equipment and no mask. Decided to unload and the load and it fell over. Fortunately no damage or injury.

Debbie S. said she had it on the best authority that 2 Underwear is the very best underwear. Must provide double the support. Really enjoyed the blossom run through Vancouver with human as opposed to virtual running mates.

Pat Atkinson our President Elect reported on her PETS experience which was done virtually. The theme for the 2021 - 2022 is "Serve to Challenge Lives." There were six different learning sections, a music concert, and Rick King spoke at the finale. There were 749 registrants and 500 President Elects. The main thrust of the sections were increasing Rotary's reach, adaptability, leadership and Foundation. There were approximately 20 - 21 sessions with excellent instructors and many break out rooms. During the break outs, Pat met many other President Elects and discussed the issues raised in the sessions. There are more courses scheduled. Themes of the sessions were, service above self, each one bring one and do more to grow more. The emphasis was on growth because world wide membership has been at 1.2 million for years. One point made was service to others is the rent we pay for our space on earth. Our RI President Jordan Harrison focused his talk on eradicating inequality. Shaker Meta spoke of the need to increase membership and he introduced the Polio Society to members. All of the speakers were inspiring. To listen to Rick King just follow this link https://vimeo.com/517351163 If you are interested in listening to any of the other speakers the links are below.

We are not rocket scientists. We are also not astrophysicists or astronomers who compared to rocket scientist may be as smart as a sack of hammers. Or are they?

So as you may be aware the atmosphere around earth distorts the images of the planets stars and galaxy that are observed by ground based telescopes. So a method has been devised to adjust the telescopes to eliminate this distortion. First, a wavefront sensor, which is a fast digital camera maps and measures the distorted shape of the light waves heading towards the telescope. Because the atmosphere changes so fast the sensor must make a new map several hundred to thousands of times per second. But the light from the stars are not bright enough. So a laser guide star excites sodium atoms that exist 90k above the earth's surface creating an artificial star from the laser light. The laser is attached to the telescope. Finally a deformable mirror, made of  a thin reflective membrane, sits on a matrix of a few thousand actuators that push and pull the membrane by a few microns to shape the reflective light. Every time the sensor makes a measurement it sends it to the mirror which deforms in a way to compensate for the distortions in the incoming light removing the aberrations caused by the atmosphere. The atmosphere changes so fast that the changes must be made every millisecond or so. This is a major mechanical and computational challenge. The deformable mirror hardware must be capable of making thousands of motions every second and paired with a computer and wavefront sensor that can keep up with this speed.

See what I mean? Easy Peasy Right? 🤯

TODAYS CHUCKLEs

              🤪

Yes there are even Scottish jokes.

One day Jock bought a bottle of fine whiskey and while walking home he fell. Getting up he felt something wet on his pants. He looked up at the sky and said, ”Oh lord please I beg you let it be blood!

A Scots boy came home from school and told his mother he had been given a part in the school play.
“Wonderful,” says the mother. “What part is it?”
The boy says, “I play the part of the Scottish husband!”
The mother scowls and says, “Go back and tell your teacher you want a speaking part.

Jock was digging peat at his croft when a passing American tourist asks, “How much land do you have here?”
“About two acres” Jock replies.
“You know back home it takes me a day to drive around my ranch !” the American boasts.
“Aye”, says Jock ” I once had a car like that.”
