I strongly encourage everyone to email or forward me weekly photos, stories, speakers, and content we would like to be posted to keep our social media up to date. Meeting Rules - Suspended for now but keep the following in mind when out and about.

1. Use hand sanitizer upon entering and exiting a room/building
2. Maintain physical distancing of 2 meters at all times
3. Wear a mask when you cannot physically distance or inside.
(The Board strongly encourages members to annually e-transfer a minimum of $102/Rotarian to cover S@A contributions for the year)

Amanda will be sending an email describing a Walktober event where on Sundays we will be able to walk together/apart at Garry Point. Debbie S. is going to award prizes for those who walk/run the furthest. Another competition where you can win if you keep score.
Jun Cortes is applying to become a member of our club. He has been in Canada for 15 years. In the Philippines he worked in Banking and was a Rotarian. Here in Canada he first worked for Accenture in financial consulting. He now has his own business in Fintech and opened the first Philippine Credit Union. He has realized he has some time and wants to rejoin Rotary. Welcome Jun we look forward to you becoming a member.
Pooh Bear and Piglet are missing their hugs! Along with the rest of us. Get Miles to give you an extra hug Debbie. Or actually 39, one from each of us.

Sergeant At Arms Tidbits
Sandra is excited about Walktober as the rest of her week was Borrrrrinnngg!!!
Susan has had a busy week with the Arts Council. Does not know how Lansdowne is going to survive. Turn it into condos. Son is taking Physics and another difficult course for the first part of school year. A challenge.
Brian is having fun getting back to his routine. Macy is being taught by my son in law. HaHaHaHa! JK Richard really cares. Meredith's curling team was named team of the year. Congrats!!! Brian has his first experience as a keynote speaker at an HR conference. You will be great! Talk about the history of Ouija boards info below.
Bob, possibly Iqbal's Ipad(2) we only have his word for it, as his connection was in stealth mode. Loves walktober idea. Zara in school with no social distancing. Son at Uni on line. Expensive streaming service.
Ron went to the UBC Botanical gardens and ran with the kids as he thought he was in Pamplona - No Fear Ron
Pat has learned how to scan, or at least the majority of pages. Will get them all next time and feels very badly about the fires in the US.
Carolyn is very careful about the air quality and the wild wasps in her car port. Hopefully not the Asian Giant Hornet!
Marg's church fair was going to be this last Saturday but she managed to sell $3,000 worth of pickles and jams anyway. Ben's running classes have been cancelled just in time for Walktober. Marg still has inventory so please contact her for great canned goodies.
Mary Lou has been golfing, met with her book club for the first time since February and also had a social distance event with the University Women's Club.
Kathy's activities have been curtailed by the smoke but not her frustration with the Phoenix Pay system or the CRA. It was 15 months before she received the money owed her and then reassessed for the interest by the CRA for the Phoenix systems mistake. We all work for the TAX MAN There's one for you nineteen for me! Be thankful they don't take it all. (Beatles) It may be coming!!!!
Melinda is very concerned about her family and friends affected by the fires south of us. Hopefully the weather changes this weekend.
Jun, our pending member, although quite quiet with the smoke keeping him mostly indoors had a suggestion for better golf scores without having to keep score - play just 16 holes.
Debbie T. has been on Covid watch as son had symptoms. Isolated and cleaning fortunately his test was negative. She was able to ride her bike for 40k even in the smoke.
Elena welcomed Jun into the club and had a nice weekend in Squamish with the Dental team, touring, relaxing and seeing seals and bears.
Bobby had a quiet week in Whistler and sadly noted the closing of businesses in Whistler. Daughter turns 24.
Your editor is much better and probably just had too much smoke inhalation. Cough! Cough!
Gordon hasn't seen the mountains in days but is enjoying the sound of the children in the local playground as he had not heard it in months. Gordon was in an Orange hue this morning.
Dick says the CRA has his number and the RCMP are on the way. He has also won trips and flights and maybe the PNE prize home. NEWS ALERT CRA SAYING WILL NOW BE PHONING, HMMM, STILL BE SUSPICIOUS.
Joyce has special thanks for Amanda for her Walktober idea and that her sons evacuation order is now rescinded as the winds changed and the fire is moving the other day. PHEW!
Danny also welcomed Jun. He reported that he has a friend who wanted to talk to her deceased husband. So Danny advised she would have to either talk to a medium or a Ouija Board. When they used the Ouija Board suddenly the lights went off and she got answers from her husband. Danny explained the paranormal experience by auto movement of the Ouija Board by his friend. Apparently her husband had never been so talkative. THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE!(X-Files)
Amanda is so glad she is put on mute and also not on video. Apparently little Miss Muffett spilled her curds and whey as a spider sat beside her. Or at least her cell phone needed a new screen. ARACHNOPHOBIA. Yikes.
Bill is taking a course at UBC and is 25 years older than the teacher. If you want a source of athletic masks contact Bill.
Debbie M. had one of her wisdom teeth out and still has one left. One quarter of wisdom left. Had one clear day in Penticton on the paddle board then the smoke drove them home. No mention of a fall off the board. Miles must have been there.
Debbie S. has been running in spite of the smoke and came across a contented and muddy pig during one run. Must live in a brick house! She is running in the Terry Fox run. She reminded us that other problems in our world have not gone away and we need to give help where we can. Debbie will be in a birthday parade for a 92 year old neighbour.

Jacob and Ian, two McRoberts Secondary School students, spent 4 - 5 days in Powell River at the Adventures in Film Camp. Ian did not want to be with his friends and met new friends. He learned new terms and about editing and post editing. He had a lot of fun. Jacob on the other hand wanted to stay with his friends but was able to meet new people too. He learned a lot from his mentor and learned to collaborate with others. Jacob enjoyed the freedom to make the movie the group wanted to which was a comedy. Apparently they shot one scene 30 times. He was proud of his film and had a great experience. Ian also filmed a comedy that was completed fairly quickly as they worked well together. The films were shown in an old theatre in Powell River and the community was invited to watch. Both young men had a great experience and our club does well to sponsor the students in these adventures.
Meanderings
The ouija also known as a spirit board or talking board, is a flat board marked with the letters of the alphabet, the numbers 0–9, the words "yes", "no", occasionally "hello" and "goodbye", along with various symbols and graphics. It uses a planchette (small heart-shaped piece of wood or plastic) as a movable indicator to spell out messages during a séance. Participants place their fingers on the planchette, and it is moved about the board to spell out words. "Ouija" is a trademark of Hasbro, but is often used generically to refer to any talking board.
Spiritualists believed that the dead were able to contact the living and reportedly used a talking board very similar to a modern Ouija board at their camps in Ohio in 1886 to ostensibly enable faster communication with spirits.(Fox Maulder)
Paranormal and supernatural beliefs associated with Ouija have been criticized by the scientific community and are characterized as pseudoscience. The action of the board can be parsimoniously explained by unconscious movements of those controlling the pointer, a psychophysiological phenomenon known as the ideomotor effect. (Dana Scully)
Brian you can talk about the Ouija Board as key note speaker. Don't ask for feed back. I think you will be accused of the idiotmotor effect.

TODAYS CHUCKLE
I used to date a girl with one leg who worked at a brewery. She was in charge of the hops.
Veteran Pillsbury spokesman, Pop N. Fresh, died yesterday of a severe yeast infection. He was 71. Known to friends as "Brown-n-Serve," Fresh was an avid gardener and tennis player. Fresh was buried in one of the largest funeral ceremonies in recent years.
Dozens of celebrities turned out including Mrs. Butterworth, the California Raisins, Hungry Jack, Aunt Jemima, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Skippy.
The graveside was piled high with flours as longtime friend, Aunt Jemima, delivered the eulogy, describing Fresh as a man who "never knew how much he was kneaded."
Fresh rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with many turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes -- conned by those who buttered him up. Still, even as a crusty old man, he was a roll model for millions. He enjoyed being prodded by his many friends who invariably poked fun at him.
Fresh is survived by his second wife. They have two children and another bun in the oven.
The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20 minutes.
