Kathy's friend with lymphoma received the good news that she can carry on with the treatment from the clinical trial as funding came through for her second round in Seattle.

Mary Lou is getting a new exercise bike has to eat mushy food but was excited to have a meal at an A & W finally something that felt normal. Ordered a Grandma burger I hope.

Bill is living through ground hog day #300 he thinks it is a run day.

Peter has solved his eaves saga - Kal is missing his. Warns about inflated estimates because of hucksters targeting seniors. Get more than one estimate.

Chris B. thanked Marg for the new puppy advice. She is starting her practicums and cried with the inauguration yesterday.

Judy feels lighter with the new president and is now the essential visitor for Ralph.

Susan's Mom is in RGH and is lucid and able to talk.

Sandra reported that Kyle is moving into his new home with thanks to Chris P. on arranging the mortgage. Riley is engaged and we are all invited to Cape Town for the wedding.

Bobby is the designated driver for wife and daughters shopping - spending spree intoxication. Needs retraining on fine dining at Glowbal.

Marg is walking and Zooming and Trump played "Did it My Way" fortunately he is now down the highway.

Yours truly agrees that Dalbir is getting better looking every day. Son Michael finished the Mahal brownies, had his last toke and has been clean for a couple of days and will stay so. Can't imagine being in a room for 2 straight weeks.

Brian reports that Meredith got her drivers license on first try. Brian did not however get his plumbers ticket on the first try. Main drain from house became plugged and Brian decided he would  get a snake and clean it himself. Sounds like whatever he cleaned from the drain ended up on him and in his office. Fortunately he did do well on his performance review that day. He must have fudged on the questions about his plumbing skills.

Dalbir can't wait until tomorrow. Kal is missing his furnace.

Bob S. admired two of Brian's better qualities - cheap and stupid. We all get a turn at that of course. Bob gets to repair a water tank at one of his buildings for apparently $2,000 labour. Parts coming from one of Kal's buildings. Does the man cave have a shower?

Amanda will file last week under F for forget but is positive about the coming week.

Melinda is having Ground Hog day as well. She can't believe how one person (Biden) can change the tone of the discussion so quickly.

Carolyn was glued to CNN yesterday and is filled with hope. Granddaughter off to pre school and loving it.

Chris P. announced that Adventures in Citizenship will be proceeding this year on line. She no longer feels she is in an apartment above a meth lab. I assume that was a reference to the change in government south of us - but who knows???? Is in a new agency and Mitch has moved home.

Larry says Steve is happy to be American once again. Larry now knows what it is like to be tasered as had electric shocks that felt awful but is feeling much better today.

Gordon had congrats to those with good news condolences for those with bad news and as for him - no news.

Pat is dealing with ants who like to visit when it gets cold outside. Don't they know about the restrictions on gatherings??

Sam had the great pleasure of the fire alarm's battery dying in the middle of the night(does it happen at any other time). Chirping coming from somewhere so a 7/11 visit for a battery will sleep well tonight. Chirp Chirp

Debbie M. feels like ground hog day as well but does get out to show properties.

Debbie S. proved it really was ground hog day because "I got you babe" was on the radio when she woke up this morning. No sign of Bill Murray though. Mom is home from the hospital and Deb went to visit parents both doing well.

Jim Bindon the Director of Philanthropy - Richmond Hospital Foundation spoke to us about the Surgical Restart Campaign. He advised us that with the postponement of elective surgeries and then the restart the need to update and renew their equipment became more urgent. Not only because of the increased demand because of the restarting of elective surgeries but also because surgical equipment needs to be replaced every 8 - 10 years. This not only provides the most modern facilities to serve the needs of the patients but also to attract top surgeons to Richmond Hospital who want to use the most modern equipment. Richmond Surgical Care has 8 operating rooms with 60 surgeons who perform 9,000 surgeries a year. Richmond Hospital is ranked in the top 10% of hospitals in North America according to the America College of Surgeons. Richmond is currently two generations from state of the art equipment and without the upgrade will not achieve new and up to date standards of care. The emphasis is on laparoscopy surgery equipment that allows for minimally invasive surgery that will benefit all surgical specialties. The other equipment assists with stone surgeries, diagnose urinary issues and a tissue slicer that will assist with diagnoses from biopsies. The goal is to raise $2 million and they are more than half way there. RHF is prepared to work with our Rotary Club and others for appropriate donor recognition. Further whatever funds we donate will be matched. Also consider donating a portion of your estate to the Foundation by making a provision in your will. For more information on RFH or to donate directly you can go to their web site at Home - Richmond Hospital Foundation  If you wish to donate to the Surgical Restart Campaign after you click on "Donate" you can designate the Campaign under "area to support".

Meanderings

Our club has had a long history of supporting RHF and Dalbir provided us with some of the details as follows:

Our Rotary Club had received the Doctor of Philanthropy award. This came with a white doctor’s coast which has the RHF ( Richmond Hospital Foundation) Logo and the words “Dr. of Philanthropy” and  we were presented with a stethoscope., Garth Edwards is the keeper of both. The award is for those who have contribute $50,000 or more. We had contributed lots of money over the years to not only the operating rooms, but also the gardens outside including the bricks ( that was a passion of Basil Kallner) and we contributed to one of the renovation of the ER room. As you know the ER needs to be renovated often to keep pace with change and it gets beat up.
Doug Nightingale (former member of our club) was chair as were both Bill Jaffe and I. Ralph May and Christine Brodie have served terms as Trustees as was a former member Ron Benoit (as that was the term the RHF was using instead of director).

I listen to Ted Talks daily pod casts and there was a recent one on participatory democracy such as citizen's forums to supplement representative democracy on specific issues. The hope is this would restore citizen's faith in democracy. A good example where it would be effective is climate issues. According to an article in Scientific American 63% of Americans say NASA should make global climate monitoring a top priority and 88% think it should be an important priority. The second priority is to search for asteroids or other objects that might hit our planet. At 88% this would include a whole bunch of people who voted republican in the States. If climate policy was set through citizen's forums or a polis instead of a popularity contest how helpful that might be for the health of our planet and ourselves. As the article states, although talking about climate change can be considered divisive "one thing  that seems to unify us is the belief that the most important thing we can do in space is to collect information to protect ourselves and our one and only earth."

There are actually banker jokes here are a couple.

My bank loves me.
They told me my credit card balance is outstanding.

If you think nobody cares if you’re alive, try missing a couple of payments.

Wine jokes are always welcome.

A day without wine is like???? Just kidding I have no idea!

Does anyone know which page of the bible explains how to turn water into wine? I am asking for a friend.
