This is the weekly bulletin for
The Richmond
Sunrise Rotary Club
for July 09, 2019

Last weeks meeting

President Sam conducted his first meeting of the new Rotary Year, with flair and energy - well done Sam! He opened the meeting with an "unmuffled" ringing of the bell!  Speaker was next years president Debbie S., introduced by Joyce.. Debbie took us through a very interesting presentation about 5 steps to wellness based on the works of Nic Marks.. The 5 steps are:
1) Connect with others
2) Be physically active
3) Take Notice
4) Keep Learning
5) Give
She elaborated each point with many examples, some from her own life.. Melinda thanked Debbie and presented the "coveted Rotary Pen"!

(Dalbir SAA)

   - Brian is back from 10 days in and around St John's Newfoundland with his family. Very enjoyable and he highly recommends visiting this distant part of Canada.

  -  Chris M told us about the very interesting  eco system in her backyard. It includes both brown and striped animals. Did you know that skunk kittens are very cute!!

  - Ron, (a relatively new member) reads the Monthly Rotary magazine - do you?  I'm good - no problem...

Meanderings

    - Did you know?

 -  St. John’s Newfoundland is the oldest city in North America. And Water Street is the oldest street in North America.  Gander International Airport is located almost exactly on the great circle route from New York to London, which is why it was the busiest airport in the world in the 1950’s.

 - Marconi received the first transatlantic wireless message on Signal Hill on December 12, 1901 – Newfoundland is the Easternmost point of North America and because of that has played an important role in any number of industries from aviation to transatlantic communications. It’s thanks to this geographical quirk that Marconi chose the high peak in St. John’s as the location for the first wireless message sent across the ocean.

July is Rotary Literacy month

Today's Chuckle

   - Please join me in remembering YET ANOTHER great icon of the entertainment community. The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday of a yeast infection and trauma complications from repeated pokes to the belly. He was 71. Dough Boy was survived by his wife Play Dough, three children, John Dough, Jane Dough, and Dosey Dough, plus they had one in the Oven. The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20 minutes.  (courtesy MLM!)
